"Jingle Bells" was written by James Lord Pierpont (1822?1893) and published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the fall of 1857. Interestingly, the piece had no connection to Christmas originally and its association with the holiday season only began decades after it was first performed by performer Johnny Pell in Ordway Hall on September 16, 1857. Many sources hint a the possibility that "Jingle Bells" was originally written to be sung by a Sunday school choir.

History:

"A Holly Jolly Christmas" was written by Johnny Marks in 1962. The song was re-recorded by Burls Ives and released in 1964 as a single and later featured the following year in his 1965 holiday album, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas. It features an acoustic guitar solo introduction; it is this version that has since become the more commonly heard rendition on radio. It is also the version this guitar arrangement is based on.
