Scarborough Fair - arranged for solo guitar by Dan Jones

Scarborough Fair is a much-lovedtraditional English ballad, the text of which dates back to medieval times. Ithas been recorded many times by contemporary artists, most famously, Simon andGarfunkel.

In making thisarrangement I am attempting to create a work suitable for the more-advanced orconcert player. My intention has been to use the original theme to construct apiece with structure and harmonic depth.

Scarborough Fair iscomposed in the beautiful, ambient Dorian mode. It is firstly presented in ADorian and midway, modulates to D Dorian before returning to the original modewith a coda. By adjusting the sixth degree of the scale the theme is also heardin Aeolian mode.

I am excited at theidea of using well-known themes to create a concert repertoire suitable for allenvironments and which will appeal to guitarists and non-guitarists alike.

I have also triedperforming the piece with a capo placed at the second fret when I have felt myprogramme needed more harmonic variety.

Londonderry Air (Danny Boy), a traditional Irish melody, arranged as a chord melody for solo jazz guitar. Includes 3-page score with tablature.

This is a fingerstyle arrangement of a popular traditional song "The House of the Rising Sun". I arranged it into jazz fingerstyle music with walking bass lines.
