This is the Prelude from Bach's Cello Suite No.2 arranged for guitar and is a grade 8 piece.
The fingering and position has been completely reassessed to allow most arpeggiated chords to ring on. Intervals of a 2nd are played as scales.
The lower voice (with stems down) is an optional addition to the original cello score.
Chord analysis and tablature has been included.

This wonderful Guitar Piece, Romance, is a classic for any repertoire. PracticeThe piece lasts around 2:45 at 94 BPM. Once the triplet plucking is mastered the majority of the piece is easier to learn. It is just a case of learning the left hand shapes and incorporating where the melody goes, usually on the first or second strings. It is worth while making sure of your fingering in the intro section to make sure the scale is played well and with a clear tone. Fingering is merely suggested if you find a more comfortable/logical way for your playing style and the integrity of the piece is maintained, go for your own fingering. Don't let the fingering put you off!LevelThis piece is around Grade 4/5 level. Suitable for first instrument at Higher in Scotland and second instrument at Advanced Higher. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1136061). If someone is yawning saying, I'm sick and tired of playing music in the key of C Major, I want to use a scale hardly anyone uses. Then this piece is for you.1. Guitar Arrangement2. Guitar Tab3. Less stereotypical chords 4. Fingerings and letter names added to aid in sight-reading 5. Voice leading considerationsThe Scale I used is: D Eb F# G A Bb D. The name of it would be something bizarre. These names include: Jewish, harmonic major, or a mode of G harmonic minor. If I included a C#, it would be a symmetrical scale that can't be retrograded, adding to the mathematical mystique. An exotic sounding atmosphere was what I was going for.Tips:1. Since it is exotic, microtonal pre-bends seem appropriate to make it even more exotic sounding. That is what the upwards pointing swoosh means. Perhaps the sound of a sitar was what I was going for.2. Slides also make it sound more exotic.3. Exotic music uses drone tones more often than American music. Therefor, droning a low D made sense.4. The naming of chords would be quite difficult since it is more of an alien music language than a western one. I just left them out this time. Names would happen such as Dadd4(b9)omit3. Pretty alien chords if you ask me, and you can see that the western chord nomenclature is struggling to name it elegantly. Anytime chords are build in 4th and 5ths rather than 3rds, usually the name that results is quite complex.5. I added unisons because it makes it sound more mysterious in my opinion.

Both versions have the same melody, but Version A has a beginner level accompaniment part, while Version B has a bit more complicated part. A great way to teach your students about arrangements as well as letting them 'upgrade' to the harder part. Key of D Major. Each version is approximately 45 seconds long. They can be placed together for 1.5 minutes long total.
