The Wild Mountain Thyme - also known as Will Ye Go Lassie Go' is a much-loved traditional Scottish song, the text celebrates the onset of summer.

In making thisarrangement I am attempting to create a work suitable for the more-advanced orconcert player. My intention has been to use the original theme to construct apiece with structure and harmonic depth.

The melody ispresented in a number of contrasting harmonisations and also with the theme presentedin the bass.

I am excited at theidea of using well-known themes to create a concert repertoire suitable for allenvironments and which will appeal to guitarists and non-guitarists alike.

Ae Fond Kiss ? RabbieBurns (Robert Burns)

Ae Fond Kiss is perhaps the most popular love song by the great Scottish poetRobert ?Rabbie? Burns.

The poem (its fulltitle being Ae Fond Kiss and then we sever) is usually sung to themelody set here; the traditional Scottish tune 'Mo run an diugh mar an d�thu'.

The text of the poem was inspiredby Burns? friendship with Agnes Maclehose of Edinburgh. Burns wrote the poemfor her in 1791 when she left Edinburgh to join her husband in Jamaica.

The beautiful words tell of thesadness of parting, and it is this sentiment that the player should try tocommunicate when performing Ae Fond Kiss.

The Water is Wide is a beautiful song of longing and separation. There appears to be confusion as to its origins; some writers saying it is Scottish and others claiming its roots to be English. It is also known as ?O Waly Waly? or just ?Waly Waly?.

While living and working in France I discovered a hugely-popular version by the singer-songwriter Renaud. His version is entitled La Ballade Nord-Irlandaise and is a pacifist song referring to the troubles in Northern Ireland.



This arrangement is designed for more-experienced players. It is an excellent item for concert programmes, encores, weddings or background music.

This is a simple, short arrangement of the lovely Scottish song 'Annie Laurie' for solo guitar.

The technical and musical level is suitable for early-years guitarists. The ABRSM grade level is approximately Grade 2 and for other boards, where the technical requirements are more relaxed, Grade 3.

Exam boards across the world are now offering online video submissions to replace existing grades. Candidates are required to perform some set repertoire but also free choice music. This piece is ideal for Grade 2-3 standard players (2nd-3rd year). Annie Laurie also makes an excellent piece of repertoire and the addition of chords makes it a possible ensemble piece.
