LOCAL HERO - WILD THEME - Student/Teacher GUITAR DUETPrimarily for Classical Guitar but also suitable for acoustic or electric guitars.Derek Hasted writes Rightly described as an astonishingly beautiful piece, this music from the film Local Hero actually features twice on the soundtrack album, in different keys with different solo instruments.My arrangement for classical guitar exploits the soft tones of the nylon strings and works well at a slightly more modest pace compared to the original. Iâ??ve taken the theme from the closing soundtrack version, where the melody is clear and powerful. Each player in the ensemble takes the lead part in turn, and my arrangement includes one or two little bits of Mark Knopflerâ??s quasi-improvised variations on the tune.This enjoyable concert item has a wonderfully captivating melody that the audience will be humming all the way home... My duet arrangement comes in 2 formats... This one (for student and teacher) comprises a melody line set in both score and score tab and a teacher's accompaniment set in score only. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4258). Four Album Leaves, Op. 28 is a set of pieces for piano solo composed by Edvard Grieg. The set was first published in 1878 in Leipzig by C.F. Peters. The Album Leaves were composed over the span of almost fifteen years. As such, they present a fascinating cross-section of Grieg's pianistic and compositional development. They are arranged in chronological order as follows: Allegro con moto (1864), Allegretto espressivo (1874), Vivace (1876), and Andantino serioso (1878).Having realized some years ago that due to Grieg’s way of writing for the piano, that they would fit wonderfully on two guitars, I began with this set, and then moved onto more of his works, finally transcribing his complete set of 10 books of Lyric Pieces (66 pieces in all), all of which are available as separate publications at Les Productions D’Oz. Perfect to close the first half of a concert, then!I've moved the piece into the key of E minor, partly to make best use of the guitar neck, and partly to allow open string harmonics to recreate effortlessly the octave jumps in the original piano chords.In my arrangement each player has that ear worm motif at some point, and it fits surprisingly well onto the guitar neck, despite its chromatic structure.The original is very fast, and you may find, as I do, that it breathes better on guitar if taken 10% slower, with the bonus of making the piece just that little bit longer too.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. It will suit an intermediate duo. There are two versions in this one edition - they contain the same material. One version is tune and accompaniment, and is ideal for a Student/Teacher pairing, or a duo with an early intermediate and an intermediate player. The other version swaps roles halfway through, so the parts are both intermediate. I’ve made a significant change to the key here, but that allows the guitar to produce a haunting first verse where a stopped B and an open B ring through each other to generate a smoothness of accompaniment that is sublime and mimics the reverberant piano of the original.The arpeggio patterns here match closely those of the original piano too, giving verses 1 and 2 quite different texture. Sadly there is no orchestra and massed choir to build this version in the way that the original does, but the dynamics on the score tie in with the original song.The guitar parts here are in “score and tab†and in “score alone†- there is no difference in the music, but the tab may help notation readers see how the opening section sits on the neck of the guitar.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Much of Adele's improvisation at the end of the track is captured here, unlike some other published editions.Guitar One goes up to top G, but there’s no fingering as you may want to choose when to change position. Guitar Two, by contrast, is more straightforward though the first beat is often written to come early - at the back of the previous bar or measure.Whilst it would have been nice to swap the parts over at the phrase boundaries, the change of pitch and the way the melody overlaps the bar-lines mean that a changeover would spoil the flow and balance.The metronome mark is close to the speed of the original, but the lush tone of the guitar allows you to go a little slower if it makes for a tighter performance.The parts are laid out with extra sample pages at the front so that you can preview some of each part and some of the full score on screen before purchase. I've also written a trio version, where the arpeggios and bass are split into separate parts to make it even easier! There are TWO versions of the duet in this one edition. The first is tune and accompaniment... Guitar 2 is an arpeggio accompaniment that uses simple and common shapes. Guitar 1 ventures up the neck, but it's such a slow piece that this is really straightforward. The second is call and response where the two parts swap over at the major phrase boundaries, so that each player has a chance to play the tune and to play the accompaniment...Just choose the version that works best for you!This would be great in a school concert, but also an adult ensemble would find it a crowd-pleaser that takes little effort to perform!I hope you enjoy this piece!

AS LONG AS HE NEEDS ME (Oliver) - GUITAR DUETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.This poignant yet uplifting piece is from the stage show & film Oliver and is another fine example of Lionel Bart's craftsmanship with melody.Derek Hasted writes This makes a delightful 'quiet piece' in a concert - many of the audience will know the music and my arrangement has been crafted to make an accessible duet that generates rich chords without complexity - the work is split across the players.The first guitar part goes high up the neck, but the music is slow and the shapes are straightforward. The second guitar part requires the 6th string to be tuned down to D and there are a couple of chords that require three fingers to be placed simultaneously, but there are lots of open strings throughout the piece that help improve the sustain and flow. The bottom D provides real depth to this piece and the sound is full and lush for minimal effort. My arrangement can be played as a performance piece, or with a small adjustment, as a student/teacher duet.My arrangement has two verses, and these are orchestrated differently - one in an arpeggio style and one in a countermelody style. You can mix and match the arrangements as you wish and it’s easy to add extra verses too. The tune is fairly low in pitch so that the tone is warm and mellow, but it needs to project over the accompaniment which straddles it in pitch.If you play the arrangement as written, each player gets a verse on the tune and a verse playing the accompaniment - perfect for performance.If you are a teacher, then your student can play just the page containing the tune, and you can accompany them - indeed, if you take their second page, you can play two different accompaniments while they play two verses of the tune...I hope you enjoy this piece!

DEVIL'S GALOP (Dick Barton Theme Tune) - TWO GUITARSFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This evocative tune was the theme music to Dick Barton Special Agent, a radio drama on the BBC many decades ago.The music is full of tension, with rising chromatic chords and long chromatic scale passages creating a constant restless feel.The roles of tune and accompaniment swap over increasingly often as the piece progresses, so the audience will have plenty to watch as well as hear.The accompaniment role is fingered, as there’s really only one place on the guitar to play the chords. The tune, though, is unfingered - there is a compromise between the short reach in high positions and the extra height of the action - you may prefer to stay up the neck, or you may wish to move up and down - please add fingering and position changes where you wish. And add slurs too, if these improve the flow of the music.Here and there, I have deliberately “respelled†some of the accidentals in a way that hopefully improves overall readability, and sometimes the two parts have two representations of the same note at the same time.A version of this was played by the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra who also managed to find time to mop their brows in the occasional pauses in the action.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! ONE LAST WISH (from Casper)- Intermediate GUITAR DUETFor Classical Guitar - also suits Acoustic GuitarDerek Hasted writes A haunting melody (pardon the pun!) is interspersed with lush & uplifting phrases and exotic chromatic passages. It’s an unusual and delightful piece that makes a refreshing and unexpected concert item.There’s plenty of interest for both players, as the tune moves between the two guitarists.I’ve fingered some of the more complex chord shapes, mainly as an aide-memoire, because the key signature and the accidentals combine to make some of the chords hard to read - for example there are F major and F# minor arpeggios looking (at first sight) identical on the page. Some of the more complex chromatic movement is actually gloriously straightforward because of the way I’ve arranged the music to use shapes that slide down the neck.
