PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (The Smiths) - accessible piece for 2 GUITARSIntended for classical guitar, though sometimes it gets listed erroneously under electric guitar.Both parts are supplied in “Notation only†and “Notation + TABâ€Derek Hasted writes This song burst back into my consciousness when it was played as a Viennese Waltz in the BBC TV program “Strictly Come Dancingâ€.The ponderous, downbeat, original became light, inspiring, uplifting and very beautiful.Here’s the version that was on TV - the same key as the original but slightly shorter.One guitar takes the tune, the other (with the bottom string tuned to D) takes the accompaniment - there is really no seamless way to swap roles partway through, so as well as a concert piece it’s an excellent Student/Teacher duet to teach some rhythms that are unexpected.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. DEVIL'S GALOP (Dick Barton Theme Tune) - TWO GUITARSFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This evocative tune was the theme music to Dick Barton Special Agent, a radio drama on the BBC many decades ago.The music is full of tension, with rising chromatic chords and long chromatic scale passages creating a constant restless feel.The roles of tune and accompaniment swap over increasingly often as the piece progresses, so the audience will have plenty to watch as well as hear.The accompaniment role is fingered, as there’s really only one place on the guitar to play the chords. The tune, though, is unfingered - there is a compromise between the short reach in high positions and the extra height of the action - you may prefer to stay up the neck, or you may wish to move up and down - please add fingering and position changes where you wish. And add slurs too, if these improve the flow of the music.Here and there, I have deliberately “respelled†some of the accidentals in a way that hopefully improves overall readability, and sometimes the two parts have two representations of the same note at the same time.A version of this was played by the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra who also managed to find time to mop their brows in the occasional pauses in the action.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! Bach Prelude from BWV998 for 2 GUITARSFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This wonderfully lyrical Bach Prelude is one of the most famous preludes to fit onto guitar.I hope you’ll find it’s also one of the best to fit onto two guitars!The original was in the key of Eb major and the facsimile score I used as the basis for my arrangement was for keyboard. I’ve simply taken all the original music and split it across two guitars in the key of D, to give a wonderful stereo effect and to make the phrases stand out. The original had very specific rests in the bass lines which are pretty much automatic on a harpsichord with limited sustain, and quite easy to do on a modern piano. For a guitar, the mix of open and stopped strings can make consistent note lengths quite hard to achieve, and I have included a second arrangement in which the bass notes are notated as ringing on (as indeed most solo guitarists do, starting with the first note of the piece!). The result is a score which is much easier on the eye, and the “decay†of the guitar's bass notes mean that it doesn’t sound at all untidy - indeed it sounds more mellow.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. (Please note that I have also produced a separate trio arrangement which suits a mixed ability group or large ensemble - the tune is the same but the accompaniment is easier). There are plenty of opportunities for volume changes and tone changes, and I hope you’ll experiment and find something for your ensemble that makes the performance “yoursâ€. Indeed, across the performances on YouTube there are different rhythms at certain points in the tune - notes that are aggressively aggressively in one version might be teased longer in another - the choices are yours to make - the soundclip on the SMP website shows you what I mean by a tight articulation compared to the score. ONE LAST WISH (from Casper)- Intermediate GUITAR DUETFor Classical Guitar - also suits Acoustic GuitarDerek Hasted writes A haunting melody (pardon the pun!) is interspersed with lush & uplifting phrases and exotic chromatic passages. It’s an unusual and delightful piece that makes a refreshing and unexpected concert item.There’s plenty of interest for both players, as the tune moves between the two guitarists.I’ve fingered some of the more complex chord shapes, mainly as an aide-memoire, because the key signature and the accidentals combine to make some of the chords hard to read - for example there are F major and F# minor arpeggios looking (at first sight) identical on the page. Some of the more complex chromatic movement is actually gloriously straightforward because of the way I’ve arranged the music to use shapes that slide down the neck. Audiences equate effortless with easy, but it can be a bit of a beast to play well.Why this arrangement?I’ve lowered the key by one tone which makes many of the chords sound more mellow.I’ve fixed the ungainly jumps in the bass line which came as a constraint of playing up the neck on solo guitar.I’ve improved the connectivity of the middle voices from chord to chord so the chord changes sound more effortless and natural.A side effect is that everything is easier and the sustain seems more effortless.My duet arrangement comes in 2 formats... Peters. The Album Leaves were composed over the span of almost fifteen years. As such, they present a fascinating cross-section of Grieg's pianistic and compositional development. They are arranged in chronological order as follows: Allegro con moto (1864), Allegretto espressivo (1874), Vivace (1876), and Andantino serioso (1878).Having realized some years ago that due to Grieg’s way of writing for the piano, that they would fit wonderfully on two guitars, I began with this set, and then moved onto more of his works, finally transcribing his complete set of 10 books of Lyric Pieces (66 pieces in all), all of which are available as separate publications at Les Productions D’Oz. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I, and my duet partner Ann, do.Quatre feuilles d'album, op. 28 est un ensemble de pièces pour piano seul composé par Edvard Grieg. SUCCESSION TV THEME - for 2 GUITARSDerek Hasted writes Originally set in the key C minor, this quirky, short, TV theme tends to prove something of an ear worm with those who hear it. Perfect to close the first half of a concert, then!I've moved the piece into the key of E minor, partly to make best use of the guitar neck, and partly to allow open string harmonics to recreate effortlessly the octave jumps in the original piano chords.In my arrangement each player has that ear worm motif at some point, and it fits surprisingly well onto the guitar neck, despite its chromatic structure.The original is very fast, and you may find, as I do, that it breathes better on guitar if taken 10% slower, with the bonus of making the piece just that little bit longer too.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Both will be familiar to many guitarists as they have featured over the years in a number of Graded Examinations.The countermelody is a new addition, which I originally wrote for flute, so that the piece slotted seamlessly into the background music I played with my flute partner at a friend’s wedding.The Tanz is often mistakenly translated as Dance of the Washerwoman, and it’s also known as Wascha Mesa. The Hupfauf is a companion piece, set in a different rhythm but with ostensibly the same harmonic structure (apart from the Tanz’s Coda which is absent from the Hupfauf).Each dance has two beats in the bar, and the two dances can flow into each other or can be played with a short break. When they run into each other, it makes sense to maintain the two-beat pulse, but if this makes the Hupfauf stressful to play, one can maintain instead the value of the half note (minim), so that the Hupfauf proceeds at a more modest pace.You can play the whole piece (each player plays tune and countermelody in turn), or you can shorten the piece by omitting the sections starting at A and B, which also makes the piece ideal for a mixed ability duo, as one player keeps the tune and one keeps the countermelody.Feel free to add dynamics, a little more articulation and possibly some tone color changes.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

It will suit an intermediate duo. There are two versions in this one edition - they contain the same material. One version is tune and accompaniment, and is ideal for a Student/Teacher pairing, or a duo with an early intermediate and an intermediate player. The other version swaps roles halfway through, so the parts are both intermediate. I’ve made a significant change to the key here, but that allows the guitar to produce a haunting first verse where a stopped B and an open B ring through each other to generate a smoothness of accompaniment that is sublime and mimics the reverberant piano of the original.The arpeggio patterns here match closely those of the original piano too, giving verses 1 and 2 quite different texture. Sadly there is no orchestra and massed choir to build this version in the way that the original does, but the dynamics on the score tie in with the original song.The guitar parts here are in “score and tab†and in “score alone†- there is no difference in the music, but the tab may help notation readers see how the opening section sits on the neck of the guitar.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

The second guitar part requires the 6th string to be tuned down to D and there are a couple of chords that require three fingers to be placed simultaneously, but there are lots of open strings throughout the piece that help improve the sustain and flow. The bottom D provides real depth to this piece and the sound is full and lush for minimal effort. Iâ??ve taken the theme from the closing soundtrack version, where the melody is clear and powerful. Each player in the ensemble takes the lead part in turn, and my arrangement includes one or two little bits of Mark Knopflerâ??s quasi-improvised variations on the tune.This enjoyable concert item has a wonderfully captivating melody that the audience will be humming all the way home... My duet arrangement comes in 2 formats... This one (for student and teacher) comprises a melody line set in both score and score tab and a teacher's accompaniment set in score only. Each player takes the lead part in turn, and my arrangement includes one or two little bits of Mark Knopfler’s quasi-improvised variations on the tune.There’s left hand fingering in a few places where the accompaniment is only comfortable in one position. Many of the arrangements that are out there don’t have same notes as the original, and therefore some of the cleverness and simplicity of the original gets lost.This arrangement uses the same shapes as the original, and there’s tablature as well so that you can easily see that almost all the measures in the music have the same right hand fingering, despite the mix of open and stopped strings making the score look much more complex than it actually is!Set in the same key as the original, the tune does go rather high but it’s not difficult to play and it makes for much greater clarity than playing down the neck.As the piece progresses, both players have a go at the tune and also the accompaniment...Each guitar part is provided in score (which will easily fit on a music stand) and score + tab which is a bit more bulky.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!
