Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862541). Have A Good One is a track from the bop quartet CD Guided Tour. WINNER of the 2014 SMP/ Hal Leonard Publishing Contest for Best Jazz Combo submission. The piece is a Charlie Parker-Style blues with a modal bridge. After the theme, a short tutti leads to a series of solos with backgrounds for various saxes and brass, finishing with a full ensemble chorus out. The chart can be opened up for additional solos if desired. GateWay Editions Jazz Ensemble Series titles feature SampleSolos for most improvisational sections, so your band can learn to play the section material AND blow on changes at the same time. Each soloist's part is included without the sample as well, for the experienced player. All charts are straight through, with no D.S.'s back to the top or awkward pageturns. A rhythm section Uni-Part comes with each chart, which the optional guitar, bass, piano and even drums can play from! Drumset parts are fully notated versions of the MIDI audio clips. Piano voicings AND chord symbols are provided. Running time without additional soloists is approx. 5 mins 30 secs. Brass ranges are conservative at both the high and low ends. Fanfare (for 4 or 5 wind instruments and rhythm section) was inspired by Brazilian brass bands. It was written for music students at the Sandy Spring Friends School in Maryland. This music has an exuberant spirit with samba rhythms churning under contemporary harmonic voicings. It is intended to be a short piece; however, the vamp at the end can be extended with a solo or collective improvisation. Another option is to have a percussion intro before the horn section enters with the opening chords. While Fanfare was draws upon Brazilian music, it is in my own style. Unlike my other pieces for mid-size ensemble, the rhythm section is optional for Fanfare. In this way, the piece can be performed by woodwind or brass quintets, clarinet ensemble, or sax quartet/quintet as several possibilities. Additionally, it can be easily adapted for big bands and larger ensembles by doubling players on parts so that each line has a distinctive blending of tone colors. Suggested assignment of parts for a big band: I -- 4 trumpets (open); II -- clarinet, soprano sax; III - alto sax, trombone (open); IV - tenor sax, trombone (cup), trombone (bucket); V - baritone sax, bass trombone (open). My energetic saxophone quartet (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone),â€All In†is a jazz piece that was inspired by Jimmy Giuffre’s  “Four Brothers†and all of the other great big band arrangers.  From them I learned so much about writing for the saxophone quartet in particular block chording. Further I did not score it for 3 tenors (or 1 alto 2 tenors) and bari and did not use the chord changes to Jeepers Creepers. I did enjoy creating colorful counterpoint and harmonies and tried to keep it in a light style like the Four Brothers recording.  While I did not include any improvisation it could be added perhaps using the chords from Jeepers Creepers.  All of this should make for challenging but enjoyable playing.  Note: all parts and the score are transposed in one pdf file. trt: 2’ 24 “ this work is: copyright 2023davekenneymusic I would love to get comments from you.Be Well Dave Kenneydavekenneymusic@gmail.com
