If you'd like me to make parts for other instruments (flute, horn, etc.), please reach out to me.I couldn't think of too many blues heads that'd be able to teach two essential jazz concepts (the blues and slow swing feel) that would be as catchy and as fun as Night Train. Your kids will be playing this tune a lot in the band room!Whenever chord symbols are present, bass players can make up their own bass lines and guitarists/pianists their own voicings. This chart's slow tempo and familiar harmonic structure can provide young players with a bridge to developing their own improvised bass lines and comping skills.The plunger work in the beginning is fun, but not required (in case you don't trust middle school students with plungers :))If your rhythm section players need easier or harder parts, let me know and I'm happy to provide.Feel free to add additional soloists if desired. In English, the word Jam means when players perform their solos on a Chart. The idea Manny has created here is a Percussion Jam featuring any of the Afro-Cuban Percussion instruments. Manny picked the Timbales as a guide by performing Afro-Cuban Ad-Lib rhythms. For a novice in Afro-Cuban Music, this written solo would give you plenty of ideas to work with. You can either do the written solo or create one of your own. You must remember that Afro-Cuban Drumming is based heavily on syncopation so, soloing as if you were playing a drumset won't work here. The solo can be shared not only by the Timbales but also by the Congas and Bongo Player. The chart is rich with ostinato breaks of the percussion that tie the phrase of the melody with the song. The breaks must be played as written but if the section creates a break of its own, that will work too. The only requirement is the number of bars for each break must match the chart.

Published by JLT Studio (A0.896422). Composing loops and drones form the basis of this composition. A simple drone style bassline in unison from the Cello and Double bass provide a nice moody texture throughout the piece. The piano is the main feature of this piece, utilising a granular piano effect and a sample of locusts to give this piece a mysterious atmosphere with some familiarity.How to play:While this piece can work in a band setting, I feel that the piano player is the most active and will need some good friends who are ok playing very simple lines with little variation if they wish to play the other parts.I feel it's best to set this up for a solo performance with a little more effort and preparation. I think it's best to use a midi-controller keyboard with both a sustain pedal and expression pedal. I suggest programming the bass with a click track or metronome, the locusts and granular effect will need their volume to be assigned to the expression pedal so you can bring them in and out as needed. In regards to the piano loop, while I have provided a transcription of what I played in the track, you are free to use this as inspiration to create your own.Performance time - 3 minIf you happen to record or film this piece, feel free to tag #JLTStudio ...
