Maybe This Time is a song written by John Kander and Fred Ebb, popularized by Liza Minnelli. While first recorded by Kaye Ballard, Minnelli included the song on her debut studio album Liza! Liza! (1964), as well as her New Feelin' album (1970). Though originally written as a stand-alone single, the song was added to the 1972 film adaptation of the Broadway musical 'CABARET', where it proved so popular that subsequent revivals of the show (since 1998) have permanently added it to the score. Tenor Sax 1 is on Clarinet throughout to preserve the original, intimate counterpoint with the vocal.

First adjust the tempo. This is Latin Big Band. Montunos are played at 175 or more, like sambas and merenges. The idea is a simple structure of 2,4,8 or 16 bars for solos, the harmonic content is limited so the soloist must be very clever. The piano is Cuban Style and written out. Will open for solos. Drums, bass & piano must be played as is to get the effect. . Good for programs or dances. . The rhythm section must play as written for the best effect. You must have a full time claves player---without claves you are not playing LATIN MUSIC.If you want a Maynard or Buddy chart, look elsewhere. This series of charts uses nothing more complicated than eighth notes, are not frantic or screamers, extreme ranges and are hemi-demi-semi-quaver free. They depend on intonation and the players being not intimidated by what he is asked to play. There is no contest to see how high you can go before you need oxygen , how many notes you can play in 9 seconds or before your bell overheats , or how long it takes the audience to cover their earsRelaxed and confident players always play more in tune. Good harmonies, lines and realistic rhythm patterns will produce a good result that will swing and be enjoyed by player and listener alike.

This is a funky 2 beat built on double (24 bar) blues. It has an optional vocal,( cued in for alto sax) that should be sung thru a megaphone like the old Winchester Cathedral. The title comes from a pattern of speech found only in Chicago where people still say over by here and over by there. It swings well and invites a couple tambourines playing on 2 and 4. This is a fun chart but is very correct musically even if you expect the Blues Brothers to show up when it’s played. It can be opened for solos if needed. Don’t get too serious about the vocal, it’s best with your worst singer, maybe with a clothes-pin on his nose. Enjoy it with your audience.If you want a Maynard or Buddy chart, look elsewhere. First bridge is alto 1 & 2 in unison...with solo alto out front and alto 2 in section it gets a nice echo effect--Last 8 back to alto 1 solo. First half of second chorus has a band within a band over background. Solo part has a few notes past an eighth.Last bridge trombones then alto solo last 8. Ending is very dramatic with some interesting alto work..the very last note is held over the band....like Harlem Nocturne. Not too fast.Don’t let the last note scare you, look at your fingering chart or play it 8va lower. If you want a Maynard or Buddy chart, look elsewhere.
