Rhythm section (guitar, piano, bass, drum set) parts include suggested rhythms, voicings, and bass lines in the first chorus, which can be used throughout the chart. This arrangement includes backgrounds during the solos and a shout chorus, all of which can be used by soloists in their improvised solos.This arrangement was designed to work well for programs with lesser experienced players or with non-standard instrumentation. Arranger Dave Wolpe, one of the best in the business, has written this swing ballad in G minor and C minor with reversible parts---just flip the page. No individual solos, but plenty of superb ensemble work. Vocal range low key (G minor): G below middle C to third line B-flat, high key (C minor): middle C to fourth space E-flat. This chart is first class. (3:53).

Composed as my submission to the Essentially Ellington Young Composers Competition, Pineapple Tidbits turned out very well. While one of my first large charts, it plays around with a fun theme and rhythmic hits capturing the delight of the namesake. Featuring a tenor sax solo and interluding piano solos, this work is a fun tune for any band. Regarding range, lead trumpet regularly plays high D’s and an optional F# at the conclusion of the piece; lead trombone plays several high Bb’s.Purchase includes a letter-sized score and a letter-sized set of parts.

While Snarky Puppy has the trombones playing up the option, the chart works great with the trombones down in the staff as well. If you are looking for a swinging addition to your holiday concert repertoire, George West's arrangement on Santa Claus is Comin' to Town is the chart you've been looking for! The melody is stated first by the trumpets, and the trombones take over at the bridge. Tenor sax has the solo, but there is an optional repeat for additional solos. This chart is one of my favorites, and it will have your audience tapping their toes!Grade: 3Ranges: Trumpet: D6 Trombone: Bb4 About George West: Trombonist and educator George West (1931-2013) was founder and head of the jazz program at James Madison University for 25 years, from 1971 until his retirement in 1996. He served as bass trombonist and arranger with the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note from 1953 until 1958, and performed with the Kai Winding trombone Group from 1959 through 1960. George completed his undergraduate degree at Oberlin Conservatory, and earned his masters and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He founded the jazz programs at both schools while he was a student. George also founded the jazz program at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (Muskegon, MI) in 1971 and led that program through 2004. After his retirement from James Madison University, he relocated to Deland, Florida, and led the jazz program at Stetson University until his passing in 2013.

ON THE BUS is an original composition for big band and featured as a set piece for the 2001 Australian Academy Festival of Music Jiants of Jazz Ensemble division. This is one of the first pieces I composed and arranged for big band and is based on the chord changes of Charlie Parker's Yardbird Suite. I composed the tune in the late 1980's when, as a student, I was listening to a lot of Bird and Miles and spending a lot of time catching buses! The original arrangement was done for the Queensland Youth Big Band and has been somewhat revised for this version. The head features an Alto Sax 1/Trumpet 2 soli supported with some rhythmic and melodic stabs from the ensemble. Space is provided in the chart for solos from Alto Sax1, Trumpet 2 and Piano. The chorus beginning at measure 75 features a brass section unison soli passage, composed of some of my favourite Bird and Miles licks. This provides a challenge for the brass players to keep this section tight and swinging. Fully notated rhythm section parts have been included to assist less experienced players. I hope you enjoy performing this chart!
