Jazz Waltz feel with sections in straight 4 swing feel. From Wikipedia: Click Go the Shears is a traditional Australian bush ballad. The song details a day's work for a sheep shearer in the days before machine shears. In June 2013 it was discovered that a version of the song was first published in 1891 in the regional Victorian newspaper the Bacchus Marsh Express under the title The Bare Belled Ewe and the tune given as Ring the Bell Watchman. That version was signed C. C. Eynesbury, Nov. 20, 1891,Eynesbury being a rural property located in the Bacchus Marsh area. It is possible that C.C. was the author of the song. .

The first track on The Temptations in a Mellow Mood, an album released as a crossover to white audiences, this classic Rodgers & Hammerstein tune is a great example of The Temptations close harmony skills. This is an arrangement for Big Band with Solo Male Vocal and TTBB, playable by intermediate ensembles and transcribed note for note from the recording. Starting in a Latin style reminiscent of Manteca, this arrangement is mainly in a big band swing style and briefly transitions to a jazz waltz in the middle section. Due to the vocals being featured, the horns are used sparsely and there are few sections where extended rehearsal is needed. Although the album itself doesn't break down who arranged this initially, it more than likely is an Oliver Nelson creation. Beautifully laid out in A4 size, the score and parts are easy to read and available NOW for digital download. Published by Tony Benade (A0.809147). This is not the Charade that is normally heard as a waltz. This arrangement is a fast moving, swinging chart similar to the Buddy Rich, Woody Herman big bands of the 1960s. It may look like a long arrangement when you first look at the parts but its performance time is 4 min 40 sec. if performed at the metronome marking of 216bpm at the top of the arrangement.  It has featured solos for the 2nd trumpet, tenor sax and trombone as well as a shout section. There are various types of interludes between the choruses which create an interesting change for each section. This is an arrangement that will require above average performers of a university or professional type player to perform. It is truly a showpiece for a jazz ensemble that is at the higher level of performance. A score is also available for this piece.
