Composed by Richard Cook, New Sunday Psalms is a modern collection of musical Psalm Settings paralleling the Book of Common Prayer for each Sunday in Years A, B and C.The refrain melodies are singable, making them easy to learn for Cantor, Unison Choir and/or Congregation with organ or piano accompaniment. The basic structure of each setting follows this pattern; A refrain is created from one of the verses in the Psalm. The refrain is sung first. Then the Cantor proceeds to chant the verses in traditional manner with the refrain inserted as the score indicates. With rehearsal time always a challenge, these Psalm Settings can be learned quickly, even with inexperienced singers, leaving more rehearsal time for preparing Offertory Anthems and other music. This study includes 60 pieces selected from different periods which are used with their original accompaniments, was prepared in order to read music (solfeggio), one of the most important elements in music education, using examples selected from music literature in an enjoyable way. Care has been taken to ensure that the selected music displays color and diversity in terms of technique, style, and geography, and it aims to be an eye-opener. The pieces are arranged according to the level, and when new topics and elements are used, they are indicated on each piece. Dynamics were not used in the first 10 pieces while trying to preserve to the original dynamics used in the music, minor changes were made where necessary. When possible, the original tempos of the music have been kept, but the tempo of some instrumental music has been reconsidered for this anthology and given as an approximation (circa: ca.). The musical slurs used in the pieces show the musical sentences and the breathing places. Parts of the anthology pieces might be played or studied in different ways.

When Joaquin Miller first purchased The Hights, which after his death became Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland, the hills had been clearcut. He planted every tree in the park-most native, some exotic-and today, school children visit there to learn about the native species of the East Bay environment and watersheds. The park is home to Friends of Sausal Creek, a native plant society that works to restore the original ecosystem. Joaquin Miller (went walkin’) imagines the poet wandering through a pristine habitat of red-tailed hawks and white-tailed deer, enjoying the native grasses, trees, and flowers. The song contains a bit of Oakland history (the redwood trees were used to build San Francisco), symbolism (California's golden poppy) and science (the watershed that leads to the Bay), all in the romantic spirit of poetic observance.
