Howard (A0.998850). This is an original setting of the well-known Advent text, for use in worship or concerts at Christmas. It is an accessible 6-verse modal carol, here in an easy unison/solo version which simply repeats the same music (with different words) on each verse. The work can be performed by a solo voice throughout. Alternatively, this vocal line can be sung by a unison choir of any voices (male or female), with optional solo verses, to be arranged as a choral director wishes. The piece is appropriate for virtually any standard and size of unison choir, including school, student, community, church and cathedral choirs, as well as for just solo voice. The accompaniment can be played on the piano or organ. The through-composed 4-part SATB version of this piece, as well as the through-composed flexible version for any voices, by the same composer, are also available via Sheet Music Plus.

Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1241295). Lord, Hear Us for Our Native Land (also known by its incipit, Lord while for all mankind we pray) was writÂten by the Rev. John Reynell Wreford (1800-1881), an English Unitarian minister, in honÂor of the acÂcessÂion of BriÂtain’s Queen VicÂtorÂia to the throne in 1837. It was published that same year in his Lays of Loyalty, a collection of poetry commemorating both the passing of King William the Fourth and the accession of the then-18-year-old Victoria. Fitting for national celebrations and remembrances, Wreford's text speaks of a nation's humility before God and reliance on His providence and blessing. The accompaniment is quite pianistic but can be played on the organ. The words of the first two verses are John Troutback's translation of Johann Rist's original words. The harmonization utilizes J.S. Bach's arrangement of the piece from the 1734 Christmas Oratorio. The third verse is added by Zachary Damm. The thematic progression of the verses leads the listener from verse one, in which the shepherds are approached and advised by the angels concerning the mission of the newly-born Christ child, to verse two, in which His divine human nature is viewed as dispelling night, to verse three, in which the relevance of that same Christ to the Christian's confidence of victory over death. The vocal parts are purposely kept simple, mostly in unison, in order to underscore the verbal message. The instrumentation of the piano and organ lend sufficient support to the voices, elegantly embellishing the theme, until all stops are let loose on the last verse. Christmas in Australia is the theme song from the animated, made-for-TV movie Blinky Bill’s White Christmas, a spin-off from the Blinky Bill children’s books (by Australian writer Dorothy Wall) and the Adventures of Blinky Bill TV series. The telemovie first aired on Australia’s Seven Network on Christmas Eve of 2005. In the movie the song was sung by Christine Anu, who also reprised it at Sydney’s 2007 Carols in the Domain. Weather-wise, Christmastime in Australia is very different from that in the Northern Hemisphere. Instead of cold, snow and spending time indoors, there’s lots of sunshine, lots of colour everywhere and lots to do in the great outdoors. This delightful song – Christmas in Australia – highlights the fact that, whilst these differences do exist, the true meaning of Christmas, the reasons for rejoicing, the coming together of friends and family, the excitement of children, the decorating, and the caring and sharing are the same the world over. For on this little world of ours, we’re all one family. So, come and join us as we sing, around the Christmas tree. Christmas in Australia deserves a place in the best of Australian Christmas songs. Unfortunately, it is not as widely known and performed as it should be; perhaps because the music has not been readily available. Hopefully these new arrangements for choirs and soloists may go some way towards redressing that situation. This arrangement is available in six versions – SATB, SSA and 2-Part for choirs; Low, medium and high voice for soloists/unison choirs.
