Joropo de Justina is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Violins.This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Joropo which is the national and traditional music of Venezuela. The music and its accompanying dance comes from the central plains area and is also found over the border in parts of Colombia. The basic pulse of the Joropo is 3, but this is overlaid with complex cross-rhythms. The main instrument is the harp, along with cuatro and maracas as the only percussion instrument. In the modern era other instruments may join the ensemble, especially bass. This arrangement represents the song style of Joropo, with the vocal alternating with instrumental breaks. If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The many cross rhythms will provide a rhythmic challenge and there is little time to catch breath; following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Joropo de Justina has a performance time of around two minutes at full tempo. Published by Ulrich Lehensteiner (A0.1395327). The Double-Sonata is a trio-setup-piece (two violins and piano) all about duality and contrast. Led by not just one violin but two, the roles of leading voice and accompaniment constantly switch between the three instruments.All three movements feature two strongly contrasting themes and each of the three approaches the themes' development in a unique way.The first movement's tension resolves in a kind of anti-climax, a moment of greatest fragility after the built-up tension, which then returns to a (almost) note-perfect reprise of the exposition, to show that in the end nothing has changed.The second movement even intensifies the struggle between the two themes, with ultimately one of them taking over.In the third movement, an energetic waltz, no effort is even made to unify it's two themes, they just stand block-like against each other.

The piece premiered on May 15, 2023, as part of the Cleveland Composers Guild Creativity: Learning through Experience program, this piece was first performed at The Music Settlement in University Circle in Cleveland, Ohio. Joseph Hollings (ASCAP) is a composer, arranger and music educator, and has taught music to students of all levels for over twenty five years. His arrangements have been performed internationally, including in London's West End, and have been recorded by the Onyx Brass Quintet and members of the Cleveland Orchestra. The Praeludium from Suite No 3 in A minor is originally for unaccompanied Cello solo by Max Reger (1873-1916, written 1914). For this unaccompanied duet arrangement the melody was creatively deconstructed into two parts that continuously interact as if each instrument is finishing the other's thoughts. The harmonies are inspired by the original double stops. The arrangement remains stylistically faithful to Reger's use of constantly shifting dynamics and ever-present expression marks. This 4 1/2 minute work is a worthy challenge for a serious concert or recital. A new approach to this Masterwork of the repertoire. A live performance will be considerably freer and more expressive than the temporary MIDI recording attached. Range - same note range for both parts which is a wide 2 1/2 octaves. 5 page score, 3 pages each part.

However, even though this is one of Mozart’s best known and best loved melodies, more than thirty years passed after his death before it was first published in 1827. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violins. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. The duet format gives more instrumentalists an opportunity to play music that usually requires a quartet. The overall performance time is around nine minutes with repeats, four and a half without. Both the short sample audio and the full-length youtube performance are the Clarinet Duet version. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills. There are various ornaments to negotiate, detailed articulation and a wide range of dynamics.
