Here, the famous Waltz is arranged for Violin Duet, directly from the orchestral score. The first performance of the ballet was in St Petersburg in 1890. Like his other ballets, Sleeping Beauty was slow to gain popularity with the public and international recognition only came after Tchaikovsky’s death. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The melody is expressive and legato; Both parts require dramatic dynamic contrasts and both parts explore a wide range of the instrument. The overall performance time is around five minutes. I wanted this piece to convey the feeling of the shared warmth of having family and friends meeting over the festive season when everything is done, and now it’s time to enjoy! Written in Concert C major the introduction begins with a bell- like Christmas chime settling into the main theme which is almost like a verse and chorus.The piece has two of these sections with a link between the two. The second section is a different treatment to the first as some of the bell like figurations of the opening are incorporated. There is also a mix of staccato and legato phrasing to give contrast. The Chorus part is repeated before a short quiet reflective ending. The range is two octaves at most and there is nothing more complicated than an eighth note- hence it has been set in early intermediate level.I wanted 2 equal instrumental parts so there is no number 1 and 2! The whole piece is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.Ideal to be added to a Christmas concert list!It is 3 minutes 15 in length. Price is for score and parts.

Appalachia Waltz by Mark O?Connor is the title track from the album featuring O?Connor, Yo-Yo Ma, and Edgar Meyer. The Sony Classical release debuted and then stayed for several months at the No.1 position on Billboard Magazine?s Classical music chart. O?Connor originally composed the piece as a solo for unaccompanied violin in 1993. For the recording with Ma in 1996, O?Connor and Meyer re-arranged the waltz for violin, cello and doublebass. As it currently appears in this manuscript, O?Connor adapts the instrumentation for two violins. ?Appalachia Waltz? might well be one of Mark O?Connor?s most-loved compositions. It utilizes musical inspiration from Scandinavian and Appalachian folk fiddling, while crafted into a classical music setting. The music is suited for advanced and intermediate levels.
