Here is a flowing and meditative instrumental trio arrangement (for VIOLIN duet with PIANO accompaniment) of the peaceful hymn Moment by Moment by Daniel W Whittle and Mary May Whittle Moody.Both VIOLINS get to lead with the melody at times making this a fun and equally challenging piece for both instruments while adding variety for the listeners.  This encouraging and uplifting instrumental arrangement is an ideal selection for a church setting and a valuable addition to the sacred repertoire for string players. Duration 3:00. The range for each part is as follows: VIOLIN 1 ~ D4 to B5; VIOLIN 2 ~ A3 to E5. All notes for both VIOLIN parts are playable in the first position making this arrangement an excellent choice for early-intermediate string players. The PIANO accompaniment is written for an intermediate player. This is pursued through a wide variety of musical elements. These include: circling melodies, repetitive chains of (modulating) chord sequences, motoric cross-rhythms and syncopation, heterophonic canonic textures, and large-scale concentric structures. The fast, first movement is in a loose symmetrical sonata form in D (modal) minor. The resolute and scalic first subject, based on the opening core motif, is followed by a transition to a more lyrical and repetitive, cantabile second theme. The ensuing development section passes through various keys, with a new, modal third theme at its centre, featuring parallel motion, syncopation, and an ostinato in the accompaniment. The varied recapitulation presents the opening two themes in reverse order (thus giving overall structural symmetry to the movement). The heart of the work as a whole is the slow romanza-like second movement, centred on G. In ternary form, the outer sections present a highly memorable lyrical theme in a series of modulating and canonic textural variations. The contrasting middle section is much more unsettled in its three varied statements of a new theme accompanied by uncertain minor sevenths chords. The rondo-like finale in D is the most minimalist in style and rhythm. A circling, motivic and scalic main theme appears between highly contrasting episodes. The first of these is a folk-like rustic theme, while the second is a sentimental melody, played over an arpeggio and descending bass line accompaniment. Heard 3 times, in 3 different keys and registers, this idea leads to an recap of the main rondo theme, signalling the end of the work. Overall, the piece is genuinely melodic and is accessible to the listener. The work is suitable for performance by higher grade or professional violinists and pianists. The name Nocturne (meaning of the night) was originally an ensemble piece in the 18th century in several movements used for for evening parties. Later In the 19thc it's one movement form, it was adopted by John Field and later popularised by Chopin. It generally has a tranquil lyrical melody and is very romantic and expressive. I have tried to keep these elements in this Nocturne. Written here for Violin Duet and Piano, the parts are equally divided. Highest note top F sharp, violin 1 (once). Bowing has been left to the performer. It is written in the key of concert B minor it has a very gentle opening with harmonies evolving around a cycle of 5th's in places. The piece has three definite sections- the lyrical melody to begin with, a middle section building to a climax before a return to the 1st section. This is followed by a transitional contrasting section (poco piu mosso) wandering through a few keys to settle on an inner pedal tonic note chime. Gentle chords restore the opening once more- this opening theme climaxes towards the end and a gentle reflection of the opening bars concludes the piece.It is 4 mins 20 in length and price is for the full score and parts.I have set it to intermediate level, but the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. I wanted this piece to convey the feeling of the shared warmth of having family and friends meeting over the festive season when everything is done, and now it’s time to enjoy! Written in Concert C major the introduction begins with a bell- like Christmas chime settling into the main theme which is almost like a verse and chorus.The piece has two of these sections with a link between the two. The second section is a different treatment to the first as some of the bell like figurations of the opening are incorporated. There is also a mix of staccato and legato phrasing to give contrast. The Chorus part is repeated before a short quiet reflective ending. The range is two octaves at most and there is nothing more complicated than an eighth note- hence it has been set in early intermediate level.I wanted 2 equal instrumental parts so there is no number 1 and 2! The whole piece is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.Ideal to be added to a Christmas concert list!It is 3 minutes 15 in length. Price is for score and parts.

A barcarolle is a traditional folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers, characterized by a rhythm reminiscent of the gondolier's stroke, almost invariably in 6/8 meter at a moderate tempo. or an instrumental piece composed in the same classical style. This modern Barcarolle, is a soft lilting Barcarolle in 6/8 time. It is in concert E flat major and in ternary form. After a gentle introduction the main theme begins with the instruments sharing the melodic line before eventually harmonising. These outer sections provide a lilting, rocking type mood to set the character of the piece. The middle section by contrast, has a lot more movement for variety but keeps within the style of the Barcarolle. On return of the main theme once more the piano takes the melody with small embellishments by the individual parts before a gentle conclusion.
