I’ve made a significant change to the key here, but that allows the guitar to produce a haunting first verse where a stopped B and an open B ring through each other to generate a smoothness of accompaniment that is sublime and mimics the reverberant piano of the original.The arpeggio patterns here match closely those of the original piano too, giving verses 1 and 2 quite different texture. Sadly there is no orchestra and massed choir to build this version in the way that the original does, but the dynamics on the score tie in with the original song.The guitar part is here in “score and tab†and in “score alone†- there is no difference in the music, but the tab may help notation readers see how the opening section sits on the neck of the guitar.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

THE DREAM OF OLWEN - FLUTE and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This fantastic piece was written as an integral part of the film While I Live, and such is the power and emotion in the music, it has achieved a recognition that has far outlasted the film.The flute part has a compass from Middle C to the G two-and-a-half octaves up and suits an intermediate player.The guitar part will suit an advanced intermediate player - much of the music is fingered for ease of playing.My arrangement captures all of the original, fiendishly difficult, piano composition, but uses the sweet tone of the guitar and flute to add quality, rather than quantity, to the notes, creating a soundscape that works effectively and makes a piece lasting almost 4 minutes. The ability of the flute to hold a long note makes the music come alive and blossom even more.The centre section has a simpler accompaniment than the original to avoid an overly fussy and unsatisfactory sound. Elsewhere the accompaniment retains much of the original harmony and rhythm, but tailored to the gentle sounds of the flute and guitar.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!Dedicated to the memory of my maternal grandmother Olwen

And then there's a gentle fade away to a quiet finish.It's an easy rhythmic crowd-pleaser that any audience will like and it’s a real toe-tapper.The guitar has a simple syncopated rhythm that was inspired by the electric bass line of the original and reworked to provide a rhythm 'chords and bass' part that is straightforward and reliable to play.The soundfile alongside this download at Sheet Music Press is a mix of real guitar and synthesised flute. In a real performance the flute part will benefit from rubato and being relaxed with the beat.I hope you enjoy this piece!

ELTON JOHN's instrumental BASQUE for FLUTE and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes Elton John's Basque is a really unusual piece - on the one hand it won a Grammy in 1991 for 'Best Instrumental', and on the other hand it has vanished from sight - it appears that there has only ever been one released version, featuring James Galway on flute. At the time of publishing this arrangement, there seems to be only a single piano version of the original piece for sale which comprises just a snippet of the original.I have other arrangements of Basque - one for guitar and oboe (in a different key to suit the instrument better), one for two guitars, and a third version for three guitars (or large ensemble) that includes a countermelody based on the orchestral accompaniment to Galway's flute.All the versions are particularly straightforward and accessible, and I hope will bring this gorgeous melody to the ears of even more people.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!
