LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE - FLUTE and GUITAR DUETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This charming piece has become incredibly well-known in the UK as the theme tune to the TV series of the same name - one of the UK’s longest running comedies.The music elegantly captures the calm of country life and the simplicity of times gone by, and makes for a refreshing and accessible concert item whether you know the original music or not.The guitar part is all in first position with just a few straightforward barré chords that are comfortable and easy to reach. The rather scary-looking Gb major chord at the end is enharmonically correct - it’s based on a flattened second to the final key of F. But guitarists will probably prefer to think of it as F# major, which is a familiar chord in guitar repertoire, and there’s no need for a barré for this one either!This music is set in the key of the original TV soundtrack. I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by number of instruments, with links to soundclips and sample score.

ELTON JOHN's instrumental BASQUE for FLUTE and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes Elton John's Basque is a really unusual piece - on the one hand it won a Grammy in 1991 for 'Best Instrumental', and on the other hand it has vanished from sight - it appears that there has only ever been one released version, featuring James Galway on flute. At the time of publishing this arrangement, there seems to be only a single piano version of the original piece for sale which comprises just a snippet of the original.I have other arrangements of Basque - one for guitar and oboe (in a different key to suit the instrument better), one for two guitars, and a third version for three guitars (or large ensemble) that includes a countermelody based on the orchestral accompaniment to Galway's flute.All the versions are particularly straightforward and accessible, and I hope will bring this gorgeous melody to the ears of even more people.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

And then there's a gentle fade away to a quiet finish.It's an easy rhythmic crowd-pleaser that any audience will like and it’s a real toe-tapper.The guitar has a simple syncopated rhythm that was inspired by the electric bass line of the original and reworked to provide a rhythm 'chords and bass' part that is straightforward and reliable to play.The soundfile alongside this download at Sheet Music Press is a mix of real guitar and synthesised flute. In a real performance the flute part will benefit from rubato and being relaxed with the beat.I hope you enjoy this piece!

WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL - FLUTE and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This lovely melody, first made famous by Alison Krauss, and more recently by Ronan Keating, makes a delightful concert piece for flute and guitar.My arrangement is based on Ronan Keating’s version, where the guitar part is a little different to the original. The music doesn’t have the slow fade-out of Keating’s piece - it’s not that easy for a flute and guitar duo on stage to emulate that! But it does have all the rest of the thematic material, including the strange but seldom noticed fact that verse two is one measure shorter than verse one. The key is the same as Keating’s version and includes the rather lovely key changes - both seem to go up slightly in pitch, yet the second key change actually returns back to the starting key.Much of the guitar part can be played in the lower positions where there’s just a little bit more sustain to help support the flute part. Where the guitar part needs sustain across the bar-lines, I have used “ties to nothing†rather than formal ties. Ties generate a lot more black on the page and make the music harder to read. I hope you enjoy performing this!

Although the music reaches the fifth position in places, it’s generally in first and second position to give access to a deeper bass-line.A competent flautist can make the final verse more dramatic by taking the music up an octave. The collection was to be called The Melting Pot as it combined cross-cultural elements of classical, popular, jazz, and blues styles. Already established as a composer of popular songs, Broadway musicals, and masterpieces like Rhapsody in Blue and Concerto in F, Gershwin’s frenetic musical activities and an early death intervened, and for various reasons—only three of the completed 5-7 preludes were published in 1927. By omission and circumstance, these three compositions have endured the test of time as Gershwin’s Three Preludes. This book presents idiomatic flute/guitar arrangements of Gershwin’s iconic Three Preludes. The original keys of the preludes were altered to accommodate drop-D guitar tuning and highlight the strengths and tessituras of the two instruments. The music is written in standard notation only and presented in guitar and flute scores, guitar accompaniment with extensive suggested fingering, and a pull-out flute solo part with guitar cues. Includes access to an outstanding online audio recording by The Cypress Duo, featuring flutist Amanda Hoke and author/guitarist Justin Hoke. Audiences are going to love hearing these preludes rendered by the flute and guitar, particularly “Prelude II”, in Gershwin’s words, “a sort of blues lullaby” that is familiar to many musicians and listeners alike.

Derek Hasted writes "Beethoven it isn?t, but a it?s fun novelty item to play in a school concert or even an informal adult concert.
This arrangement is based on one I wrote for my Guitar Workshop (see www.guitar-workshop.org.uk), and converted to a version for flute and guitar.
The original TV Theme is embarrassingly short, and so my arrangement repeats the entire middle section of the piece to present a performance item that's just long enough to surprise and delight the audience.
The accented notes in the introduction are those played by a rasping trombone in the original. I?ll be honest - neither the flute nor the guitar does a really convincing trombone impersonation, so if those notes don?t work for you, just skip over them!
