Stefano Maria Torchio: ScherzinoAs the title says (engl.: little scherzo), it's a small, playful, light and bouncy piece, that features a free atonal style and funny asimmetrical rhythms and metrics. It's not difficult but it could be wise to practice it slower at first, in order to check careful the intonation and the correct smooth and legato articulation between the fingers of left hand of the Violin player. The most careful precision in rhythm and differentiation between the articulations (that in general tends to a light staccato) is required.The piece is also suitable for school pourposes and concerts and also for liturgical ones (for example at the offertory or as final piece) by special festive occasion. Primarily it was composed for a wedding ceremony and it was for Piano and Organ and for Church Bell Carillon.Composer's dataStefano Maria Torchio is an Italian Violinist, Composer and Orchestra and Choir Conductor born in Padova, who builded his education between Italy (Conservatories of Padova and Vicenza, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Accademia L. Perosi in Biella and R. The work was composed for Rafael Liebich, Alex Russell and the People Inside Electronics concert series in Los Angeles. While much of the work is fast paced, energetic and unstopping, the title refers to passages that take place in the middle of the piece, where both instruments gradually settle down and find a gesture that deliberately imitates deep breaths in and out, taking effort to find some calm in a frenzied environment.This document includes both the score as well as a violin part as a single PDF. Â The violin part includes a few pages of the piano's score (in a reduced font size) as a cue in the middle, slower and ametric section.

This gem is unique because of its tiny fibers of rutile in a three-fold pattern that reflects incoming light into a star, an effect called asterism.Abruptly opening with a variation of the central figure, Zafiro has been designed to feature #G A #C A across a modal spectrum from beginning to end. Harmonies derived from the asymmetric division of the scale are utilized to give the piece its blue and solemn nature. Additionally, violin’s techniques such as ponticello and flautato help to illustrate the majestic and starry-like essence of the precious gem. The piece also features constant subito changes in its dynamics and tempo, as to depict the highlights and reflexes of the jewel.

Yet, Earth, Air, Fire and Water, these elements have not changed since the dawn of, well, Everything! So, our Suite for Violin and Piano is named after these unchanging aspects of our world, while using musical elements and contexts that are NOT from the past. Asymmetrical or odd-numbered phrases, major 7th, tritones, and half-steps instead of diatonic scales, wide melodic intervals, pointillisms, non-tonal harmony in the accompaniments, etc. This first movement is Adagio, slow and solid. The audio clip, along with the score, will show you more than can be described in words. Playable, listenable, accessible, and yet novel. Contemporary music that retains just enough of an older sound and feeling is the best way to get players and audiences to perform and listen to what it has to offer. Each selection in the suite runs just over 2 mins. They are all posted here as individual titles, and can certainly be played as such. Audio clips of each movement are available through this method.
