Main theme for the 1986 film The Mission, "Gabriel's Oboe" was written by Italian composer Ennio Morricone. Vocalist Sarah Brightman's song "Nella Fantasia" is set to the melody. This beautiful duet is adapted from cellist Yo-Yo Ma's rendition in his album Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone.
Instrument 1: Violin or Flute (or any C instrument than can play from C#4 to G6)
Instrument 2: Piano (or keyboard with "strings" sound)
Performance direction: gentle and expressive

Parts included are: Wind Trio 1.oboe 1/clarinet in Bb 1 2.oboe 2 /clarinet in Bb 2 3.cor anglais/alto clarinet 3a. bassoon/bass clarinet (lower octave than cor a) Flutes could also play the oboe parts.

The first one was written back when I was a student at the New England Conservatory of Music. It was my opus 3, The Sensuous Gargoyle (1975). My next one was a four-movement work entitled Tunesmith … An American Beauty Pageant (1993). It was commissioned by the Music Department at Lehigh University and premiered by two of its faculty members, Paul Chou and Paul Salerni. The violin has always been my favorite instrument. I have written twelve string quartets. For the violinist extraordinaire Irina Muresanu I wrote a big violin concerto in 2009, and a Partita for solo violin in 2011. I am slated to write another concerto, albeit a chamber one, for the Boston Classical Orchestra and violinist Sharon Roffman for a premiere in the fall of 2013. Last year I decided to write a third duo for violin and piano. I wanted to do something substantial and grandiose, hence the title Grand Duo, opus 151. Program note: I first met Minami Yoshida when I hired her and her colleagues in the Nico Quartet for a recording session of my Missa Pro Defunctis (2018) in the Eben Jordan Studio at the New England Conservatory of Music and then I heard her at an Honors String Quartet concert with Nico in Jordan Hall. Both events were in the spring of 2019 and she and the quartet were fantastic. I was so impressed with her and her quartet that I wrote a string quartet for them that summer, NICO. They recorded it for me @ NEC in the fall and I love the recording. The next thing I did was to offer to Minami to write a violin sonata for her. She was thrilled with the idea. I decided to call it Mi-la-mi, after her name; the first three notes in the violin for this work are: E - A - E. Mi-la-mi (2020) is in four movements. 1. Moderato, TRIO, Allegro vivace 2. Maria-Félicie-Clémence de Grandval (1828–1907) was born on January 28, 1828 at Saint-Rémy-des-Monts, France and died on January 15, 1907 in Paris.After the death of her mother,Louise Adèle du Temple de Mésières, her father the Baron de Reiset, a military officer remarriedwith an Englishwoman and moved his family to London. After beginning her musical studiesprivately, she studied the piano with the German composer Friedrich von Flotow, who was a family friend. Returning to France, she studied the piano briefly with Chopin and composition with Camille Saint-Saëns. At first writing mostly sacred music, most of her public success was due to her comic operas: la Comtesse Eva, la Pénitente, Piccolino and Mazeppa. She also wrote orchestral music, chamber music, and over 60 songs (to poets such as Sully Prudhomme, MichelCarré, Henri Meilhac, Georges Hartmann, Charles Grandmougin and Louis Gallet.) She is chieflyknown today for her music for wind instruments, especially for the oboe. This work was written for Paul Viardot, the son of Pauline and a well-known violin virtuoso during La Belle époque.1.
