Francis Ball was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and currently lives and performs in Las Vegas. His Words This collaboration began with a powerful name. I asked Mercedes to listen to and name an early piano composition I wrote. Her reply was “Beyond Her Only Dreaming.” The original composition was ultimately scrapped, but the name stuck with me. It inspired the muses whispering in my haunted ear. I wrote five musical tone poems that were loosely based on a woman’s dream. During the creative process, I asked Mercedes to listen to the tones and use her imagination to create sketches for each section. Her spoken poetry powerfully frames a woman’s dreams, fears, desires, and hope for love. They blend seamlessly with the music and are so masterfully written that they create a picture frame to use as structure but leave the canvas blank. This allows the listener to also take part in this collaboration and paint their own visions of how they experience the music. J.F.B.Her Words I’m a dreamer and writer of words, but I love music. When John asked me to name his original musical piece, I was delighted. I had recently written a story based on Robert Chamber’s famed The King in Yellow collection and, due to the sound and feel of John’s piece, loosely named the composition after my short story. John took this title and created a brilliant new musical composition. After listening to it, I was influenced to create spoken- word pieces that match the emotion of the music while also hearkening back to the original short story. The piece you’ll hear contains poetry influenced by original music inspired by a short story based on a collection written in 1895. Time is a flat circle. Their purpose was wanting to help the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami that devastated parts of Japan on March 11th. The meeting was organized by Mr. Alex Kurosawa, president of KPMF and held in San Jose, CA. At the end of the meeting and after much discussion about holding a series of concerts with all funds going to the disaster victims, it was suggested that I compose a new song for the project that would let those afflicted in Japan know they would not be forgotten.I was so inspired by the dedication and volunteerism of all the people at the meeting that I went home and composed a new piece of music entitled: THERE IS HOPE THROUGH MUSIC. After a favorable response from the group, I began composing another piece for violin and piano entitled: THE FINAL WAVE. In this piece, I tried to paint the horror, destruction, uncertainty and sadness of the disaster while giving hope for a future for the people who witnessed this catastrophic event. Unfortunately, THE FINAL WAVE was never completed as planned back in 2011. However, eleven years later, I completed this memorable piano and violin duet. Even though it’s been many years since that terrible day of March 11, 2011, the music can still convey emotions of melancholy, discord, resilience and compassion for tragic and unforeseeable events of today. This timeless work is dedicated to remember and give hope to all those affected by disasters and catastrophic tragedies. This advanced level of music is clearly notated for piano and violin and can be an extraordinary supplemental selection for recitals and concerts. Programme NotesBorn in Budapest, Franz de Vecsey showed an extraordinary talent for the violin from a young age. His musical journey began under the guidance of his father, Lajos Vecsey, but it was his subsequent studies with renowned violinist Jenő Hubay that truly shaped his virtuosity. At the tender age of 10, he impressed none other than Joseph Joachim with his exceptional skills, solidifying his status as a child prodigy.However, in the 1930s, tragedy struck. Just as Vecsey was poised to fulfill his dreams, he fell gravely ill with a pulmonary embolism, a condition that plagued him throughout his life. Seeking medical treatment, he traveled to Rome, where he underwent surgery in the hope of a recovery. Hofmusikalienhändler' studied at the famous Paris Conservatoire to be a violinist. Then, the nephew of Beethoven's pupil and friend Ferdinand Ries started a glittering solo career which he had to end soon after for health reasons. From then on, he turned his whole attention to the music publishing business and occasionally even contributed little compositions, such as 'La Capricciosa' or the newly published 'Perpetuum mobile' Op. 34, to the programme of his publishing house. This is the fifth movement from his Suite No. 3 for violin and orchestra (or piano), created around 1870. The little virtuoso piece sweeps by like a whirlwind, hopefully taking only the listeners', not the violin playing performers' breath away!
