This setting is for the intermediate violinist comfortable shifting in and out of 3rd position quickly. The printed fingering uses minimal 4th position, but could be easily refingered for 4th finger extention for the E harmonic for those not comfortable with 4th position. The opening syncopated melody in 4/4 exudes energy and life. With a somber contemplative 2nd stanza, the hymn tune in its original form is heard. After a brief modulation from G Major to A Major, the syncopated 4/4 melody returns with a drive to the end.

It is set in the key of D and is arranged for a level 3 violinist. Reinforce techincal concepts with this famous Broadway tune. It begins in first position. The reprise of the chorus is then played entirely in 3rd position. The piano then takes the melody for the 3rd reprise of the chorus and the violin plays an obbligato. 1 octave scales in both 1st and 3rd position challenge the student to play scales using sixteenth notes. There is minimal shifting from 1st to 3rd position. Alternate fingering is included for one passage using a 4th finger extension on the E string.Most of the bow strokes used are legato detache. There is one measure of up-bow staccato on a D major scale. And one measure of brushed off the string bowing for a D major scale.This arrangement of Do-Re-Mi will help students improve and reinforce technique while playing a song they love.

Joy to the World is played in 3rd position in D Major and then in B minor. This minor stanza uses the same fingering but in first position. The final stanza is set in D Major like the beginning. With minimal shifting, but significant passages in 3rd position, The player will be challenged with bariolage (rapid string crossing) passages from the Gloria. This is a great piece for the intermediate player to reinforce both right hand and left hand techniques with Baroque stylings throughout.

The opening has the piano playing soft clanging chords to imitate distant bells while the violin has the opening melody. The arrangement then moves the theme into a rhythmically  and joyfully syncopated pattern for the piano and violin to pass between them. The third stanza will explore the melody in a minor key with seventh, ninth and eleventh chords in the accompaniment. The final stanza brings the melody with quadruple stops using open strings and some double stops. The accompaniment fills in with big chords imitating joyful church bells.
