Published by edition Prima Vista - Uri A. Dror (A0.956104). Bartok's Romanian Dances were originally written for piano. He later arranged them himself for a small ensemble. The version usually heard today, however, is the one by Zoltan Szekely, who transcribed them for violin and piano. The current arrangement is based on Szekely’s version. Bela Bartok was a keen collector and researcher of Romanian and Hungarian folk music, and came across these tunes on his expeditions to uncover the folk music of Transylvania. They were probably played on a violin or a folk-style shepherd's flute - which makes them very suitable for the recorder, either a soprano (in one case, a sopranino), or an alto. The recorder part of this arrangement can also be played on a flute / piccolo flute.

Preface:In the early 1890s, Debussy composed the opening of a lyrical piece in E major for violin and piano, perhaps as a shorter companion piece for the violin Nocturne he was planning for the Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. After Debussy’s death in 1918, his second wife Emma often gave away sketch pages to performers or composers as memorials to her beloved husband , and this particular page was given to the Cuban born pianist and composer Joaquin Nin (1879-1949). It came up for sale in the catalogue of the British antiquarian dealer Lisa Cox in 2010 and although it might possibly be an early song for contralto and piano, the more dynamic idea in bar 12 strongly suggests the violin, especially as it begins on an open D string. Moreover, there is no text and in pieces of this length, Debussy usually wrote at least one word in, if only to remind himself where he had got to in any song. So my starting point was a complete 12-bar melody gently undulating in the violin’s lowest register over a sensual accompaniment, rising to a climax in bar 12 and giving me a contrasting idea that I could use as a link between sections and in the cadenza. As the B section (bars 14-26) derives directly from Debussy’s opening theme by metamorphosis, my own additions were restricted to the central section (bars 27-57) - comprising a new scherzando idea (C) and the more lyrical D (bars 36-46). C returns at bar 47, followed by the opening sections in reverse order, so that the Sérénade begins and ends with Debussy’s material and is cast in arch form (ABCDCBA). Robert OrledgeBrighton, 19 June 2019Robert Orledge was born in Bath in 1948 and educated at Clare College, Cambridge, where he gained his doctorate for his study of the composer Charles Kœchlin in 1973. Between 1971 and 1991 He rose from Lecturer to Professor in the Music Department of the University of Liverpool, publishing books on Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Charles Kœchlin and Erik Satie, as well as numerous articles, editions and reviews. As a historical musicologist, Professor Orledge specialized in the way composers composed, ,and since taking early retirement in 2004, he has concentrated on completing and orchestrating Debussy’s unfinished works, and especially his theatre projects. His completion of Debussy’s opera The Fall of the House of Usher (1908-17) was successfully premiered at the Bregenz Opera Festival in Austria in August 2006 and has since been performed in America, Portugal Germany and Holland, as well as being broadcast throughout Europe. A DVD of the Bregenz premier is available on Capriccio 93517, produced by Phylida Lloyd and conducted by Lawrence Foster. The piece has two parts, so unusual for works of this kind. Part I, Andantino ritmico ad lib. - has a very impulsive character. Rhythmic triplet at the piano pass through almost the entire work, thereby recalling the constant movement of the floating ship along the waves. The violin's part is quite virtuoso and requires the performer to keep the rhythm as accurate as possible. Part II, Ad libitum poco rubatissimo - is the desire of the performers for complete freedom. The mastery of all kinds of violin sound techniques, combined with a versatile vibrato and mysterious pauses at the piano, makes this work truly interesting, unusual and intriguing for the listener.

Slovak composer and sound artist Peter MachajdÃk (b. 1961) occupies a unique place in the world of contemporary music. I was enthralled by her playing and CPE's music!!! Confession: I have been a fan of CPE for decades!!! My next project is a sonata for violin and piano. I thought I should try my hand at incorporating CPE's style into TOLmusic. Why not??? This will be my fifth sonata for violin and piano. I was enthralled by her playing and CPE's music!!! Confession: I have been a fan of CPE for decades!!! My next project is a sonata for violin and piano. I thought I should try my hand at incorporating CPE's style into TOLmusic. Why not??? This will be my fifth sonata for violin and piano. The work is in seven movements. NB: I accidentally found some enigmatic titles in CPE's Petites Pièces per il Cembalo Solo. These are so amusing and funny compared to the usual Adagio, Allegro,Presto, etc. I see as titles in CPE's music that I decided to steal a few of them for my own work. I. La Stahl ... Largo II. Works well for church meditations or recital encores.Background Op.11/2 Alto Clarinet version. First of all, Scriabin composed mostly for the solo piano and also the orchestra. This is probably because he was a gifted pianist and therefore certainly appreciated the piano. Scriabin grew up in the late Romantic period, consequently, he was fond of the great piano masters of the time. As a result, he wrote his first noteworthy compositions in the manner of Chopin and Liszt. Forms Likewise, Scriabin used many of the same forms as Chopin. These certainly include the étude, prelude, nocturne, and even the mazurka. In contrast, as he developed his own sense of style his music became more and more unusual. So, the last five of his Piano Sonatas do not have a key signature and therefore lean towards atonality. Philosophy Scriabin also developed a keen interest in philosophy and likewise poetry. He was above all particularly fascinated by Nietzsche, Delville, and Blavatsky. Consequently, he finally established his own ideas about metaphysics and certainly mysticism. Scriabin consequently advanced theories about the relationship between color and musical keys. Synesthesia He also may have experienced a condition called synesthesia where he could probably sense a response created from a different stimulus. Therefore, it was almost as if he could see music and hear colors. Scriabin, therefore, arranged the colors in a circle similar to the circle-of-fifths and assigned each key area a color. Finally, he assigned the key of C to the color red, while the key of G was orange. Similarly, he assigned D to yellow, A to green, and so forth. Strangely, he did not differentiate between major and minor key colors. Multimedia Hence, his ability to translate colors into music certainly gave Scriabin a most noteworthy interest in creating multimedia events. Furthermore, He designed his biggest work, the Mysterium, to last an entire week. Even more, Scriabin made plans not only for music, but also colored lights, incense, and dancing. He designed the performance to occur in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains. The Mysterium was never performed, and only sketches of the work remain. Modern Performances In modern times, we often experience performances of Scriabin’s most famous completed works accompanied by colored laser lights and incense. These are the Poem of Ecstasy (completed in 1908) and the Poem of Fire (completed in 1910). The lighting effects for these early performances were accomplished by the clavier à lumiéres. It was a keyboard instrument that projected colored light onto a screen.

This piece for the violinist will help the following technical areas - double-stops, 2nd and 4th positions. The double-stops are easy and sound great. It is playable without venturing into 2nd and 4th positions but, use them as they are usually passed over in the pedagogy favoring the odd positions.

This arrangement was modified in its edition and violin indications. A very clean piano part was written. Very good edition of the entire score.
The Mditation is an instrumental entr'acte performed between the scenes of Act II in the opera Thas. In the first scene of Act II, Athanal, a Cenobite monk, confronts Thas, a beautiful and hedonistic courtesan and devote of Venus, and attempts to persuade her to leave her life of luxury and pleasure and find salvation through God. It is during a time of reflection following the encounter that the Mditation is played by the orchestra. In the second scene of Act II, following the Mditation, Thas tells Athanal that she will follow him to the desert.
The piece is in D major and is approximately five minutes long (although there are a number of interpretations that stretch the piece to over six minutes). Massenet may also have written the piece with religious intentions; the tempo marking is Andante religioso, signifying his intention that it should be played religiously (which could mean either strictly in the tempo or literally with religiously-founded emotion) and at walking tempo, or around 60 BPM. The piece opens with a short introduction, with the solo violin quickly entering with the motif. After the violin plays the melody twice, the piece goes into a section marked animato, gradually becoming more and more passionate (Massenet wrote poco a poco appassionato). The climax is reached at a place marked poco piu appassionato (a little more passion) and is then followed by a short cadenza-like passage from the soloist and returns to the main theme. After the theme is played twice, the soloist joins the piano while playing harmonics on the upper register as the piano quietly play below the solo line.
