Students also develop some of the many skills involved in instrumental playing faster than other skills.The Mixed Abilities School Ensemble Series for Easy String Orchestra has the flexibility to allow pupils of different standards to play together in one ensemble (up to five parts).Each piece has a total of 5 different parts which are fully interchangeable between violins, violas and cellos (double basses can double the cello parts). So whether you have 15 violins and a viola, or 3 violins, or 4 cellos or whatever, the pieces will still work well together. All parts are provided for all instruments.Part 5 uses long notes on open strings. The other parts gradually increase in difficulty up to Part 1, which uses first and second positions. The teacher should select appropriate parts for the players in the group.I GOT THE BLUES is the second piece in this series, and uses typical Blues characteristics such as syncopation and swung quavers. It also includes a section in which any player can improvise; suggested notes to use in the solo are provided along with backing figures.Please listen to the mp3 file, which is an electronic example of the piece being played with 4 violin parts and a cello on Part 5.The purchaser of this product may print as many copies of the parts as required in order for the piece to work successfully with the ensemble. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522248). Call of the North is a movement from Colin Kirkpatrick's suite for elementary string orchestra entitled “Atlantic Highwayâ€. Ideal for end-of-semester concerts or any other school or college concert occasion, these tuneful and attractive pieces are bound to please audience and instrumentalists alike. The work is scored for Violins 1 and 2, Viola (with an identical but optional part for Vln 3 in treble clef), cello, double bass and piano (or digitial keyboard). The piano part is not merely an accompaniment but an integral part of music and therefore essential. However, the piano part is not especially difficult and perfectly manageable by the intermediate pianist. All the string parts can be played in first position and there are soli sections for vln 1, cello and double bass. Pizzicato is used extensively in the double bass part and is some of the passages for the upper strings. The piece is in D major with a central passage in G major and the time signature is 4/4 throughout. The string parts have been produced in fairly large type making them ideal for elementary players. Cues have been added where necessary.

Sometimes the spirituals described the hardships of slavery (NobodyKnows the Trouble I've Seen). Most interestingly, some spirituals had hidden meanings. In Swing Low, SweetChariot it appears that the singer is talking about dying and going to heaven, but in actuality, home refers to aplace of freedom, and crossing the river Jordan means overcoming the obstacles to freedom.

It was originally written as a piece in The Scampering Scarecrow Violin Series, which has pieces from all seasons of the year. This piece depicts that antics of a wild rabbit. The melody flies around the orchestra being found in the violins, violas and the celli. .

Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522247). Shetland Sunrise is a movement from Colin Kirkpatrick's suite for elementary string orchestra entitled “Atlantic Highwayâ€. Ideal for end-of-semester concerts or any other school or college concert occasion, these tuneful and attractive pieces are bound to please audience and instrumentalists alike. The work is scored for violins 1 and 2, viola (with an identical but optional part for violin 3 in treble clef), cello, double bass and piano (or digital keyboard). The piano part is an integral part of music and therefore essential. However, it’s not especially difficult and perfectly manageable by the intermediate pianist. All the string parts can be played in first position. Pizzicato is used extensively in the double bass part and in some of the passages for the upper strings. Shetland Sunrise is in G major throughout and the time signature begins in 5/8. This might look a bit daunting to elementary places not used to seeing it but the music is a good deal easier than it appears. Because every 5/8 measure (bar) naturally falls into groups of 3 and 2 beats, the players should be told to count 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, rather than one to five. They will soon pick up the irregular lilting rhythm. There are also a couple of measures of 7/8 in this piece, which should be counted as 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2. The string parts have been produced in fairly large type making them ideal for elementary players. Cues have been added where necessary.

Music for beginner and first-year string players with performance in mind. Despite this piece being playable with only open strings and first finger, the backing track makes it sound much more complex and advanced! The following are assumed to be learnt in advance: Violin 1 / Viola 1 / Cello 1 / Double Bass: Crotchets (quarter notes), minims (half notes) and dotted minims (dotted half notes), crotchet rests (quarter rests). Open strings and first finger one tone higher on G, D and A strings. Violin A / Viola A (A for advanced): the above plus second and third fingers making the tone-tone-semitone shape from the open string. Violoncello A: the above plus all four fingers in first shape. The use of second finger is clearly marked. As many or a few parts as required can perform the piece, though the 1 parts have the true melody if used alone. Admittedly the Double Bass part musically interferes with the bass part of the backing track but is added for inclusion purposes. The backing track adds considerably and is essential for the performance. It can be bought separately from the same website.
