This arrangement is of four of the pieces from the Opus 65 set, composed in 1896, and includes the famous Wedding Day at Troldhaugen. The 3rd movement, the Ballad, is stunningly beautiful, and the rich texture of the divisi parts here is a real highlight.The four movements are:1. From early years (Fra Ungdomsdagene)2. Martin Lass is an Australian violinist, composer, arranger, and teacher. He is most well known for his performance career as a classical crossover and popular music artist with 11 CD recordings, numerous awards and accolades, and performances with the likes of Luciano Pavorotti, Julio Iglesias, and Joan Baez. Before this, he was a founding member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, as well as playing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. When he is not spending time with his wife of 46 years, his three middle-aged children, and his two grandchildren, he spends his time and energy teaching, writing, arranging, and performing.Five Australian Scenes for String Orchestra was conceived with specific iconic Australian places in mind, as well as with the intention to convey the experience of these places programmatically through the music. From this point of view, the pieces could have just as successfully been called Australian Days. As such, each piece represents a kind of day journey in microcosm, like a travel diary set to music. The points of interest in each day are indicated sequentially in the music.The pieces were written with the intermediate student string orchestra in mind. As such, they explore a wide variety of string techniques, dynamic and tonal contrasts, styles, and moods. Although the writing never takes a student out of first position barring a few cello passages, and the fingering avoids the use of cello forward extensions and minimises high 3s for the upper strings, the technical, rhythmic, ensemble, and intonational challenges put these pieces at the intermediate level. There are ossias and other alternatives for greater challenge or greater ease. Fingering has been offered where appropriate. And bowing has been meticulously indicated.This particular piece, “A Day at the Beach,†is set in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast in QLD. On a perfect summer day, one heads for the beach where fun and games, swimming, surfing, sun-baking, a picnic, and more games are the order of the day before heading home, full of sand, sun, food, and tired satisfaction.

I chose these particular tunes first because they are good tunes, but also because they are accessible to the Cello, and in the same key as the Fiddle.. These five traditional Celtic folksongs are among the best known and best loved of all folk music. Ar Hyd Y Nos (All Through The Night), first published in 1784 in Edward Jones's anthology of folk songs, Musical and Poetical Relics of the Welsh Bards, became one of the most popular hymns in the English-speaking world. A popular Christmas song, All Through the Night also appears in numerous films and stage productions, beginning with John Gay's opera of 1728 and up to the present day. Calon Lân (a pure heart), a traditional Celtic tune with lyrics later written by Daniel James (Gwyrosydd) in the 1890s, has become the anthem of the Welsh Rugby league. Llwyn Onn (The Ash Grove) was first published in 1892 in The Bardic Museum by harpist Edward Jones. In its English version, with words written by poet Thomas Oliphant, it is traditionally sung in America on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Dafydd y Gareg Wen (David of the White Rock). This song was written by David Owen, a harpist who died about 1720 at the tender age of 29. Tradition says that Owen was lying on his deathbed, and called for his harp. Too weak to hold the harp, he was helped by his wife, who held the harp upright while he played this haunting tune. Rhyfelgyrch Gwyr Harlech (Men of Harlech) describes the seven-year siege of Harlech Castle between 1461 and 1468. Commanded by Constable Dafydd ap Ieuan, the Welsh garrison withstood the longest known siege in the history of the British Isles I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I enjoyed writing it. It began life as a solo piano piece back in 1980 when I was at school and stressing over my first secondary school exams. Everywhere I looked in my school I was confronted with signs that read, “Silence! Examination In Progressâ€. A comical tune started up in my head and before I knew it it grew into a piano piece, which I wrote down and played daily to help myself cope with the stress of exams. When Gary asked for another Banda piece, I was excited to give this early little savior another chance at life as a piece for junior strings.Two arrangements available;School Arrangement: for; Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cello 1 and 2. Standard: for Violins 1 and 2, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.

Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.OMS141). 9 x 12 in inches.Cyclone was commissioned by my good friend Doug Beyer in the spring of 2009. His plan was to premiere the piece with his group (he was teaching at Garden City Community College at the time) that next fall. Unfortunately, the strings program was cut at the end of that semester and he never had the chance program the piece. It was premiered in May of 2013 by the Tabor College Symphonic Orchestra under my direction. It was inspired by the painting Twisted Ironies, a beautiful portrayal of a tornado, which was given to the composer as a gift by the artist. The drum set part was added at the suggestion of a string teacher in the community. The piece alternates dramatic lyricism with driving string and percussion statements. There is an optional first violin solo as well as a drum set solo, which will add some flair to you concert!
