An arrangement of Little Brown Jug for String Orchestra & Drum Kit.Little Brown Jug is a song written in 1869 by Joseph Winner, originally published credited to Eastburn (Winner’s middle name).It was originally a drinking song. It remained well known as a folk song into the early 20th century. Like many songs which make reference to alcohol, it enjoyed new popularity during the Prohibition era. In 1939, bandleader Glenn Miller recorded and broadcast his swing instrumental arrangement of the tune with great success, and the number became one of the best known orchestrations of the American Big Band era His version did not have the lyrics.In 1939, Glenn Miller and His Orchestra released a hit version of the song on RCA Bluebird, as an A side 78 single, B-10286-A, in a new arrangement by Bill Finegan backed with Pavanne. The recording was an early chart hit for Glenn Miller. Published by Graham Boag (A0.1305018). As a younger music student, I played Classical Guitar and always wanted to play this but for whatever reason I just could not master the tremolo effect needed. It has been arranged here for String Orchestra using various techniques to try and conjure up the famous tremolo effect, along other bowing techniques to add variety to this orchestration. A little information about the piece: Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Memories of the Alhambra) is a classical guitar piece composed in Málaga by Spanish composer and guitarist Francisco Tárrega It requires the tremolo technique and is often performed by advanced players.The piece was written for and dedicated to Tárrega's patron Concepción Gómez de Jacoby in 1899, commemorating their visit to the Alhambra palace and fortress complex in Granada, Spain. It was originally titled Improvisación ¡A Granada! Cantiga Ãrabe. It became known through an early 20th-century publication edited by Tárrega and dedicated as an homage to the French guitarist Alfred Cottin.

Published by Taggart Press (A0.1017599). The groundbreaking Broadway Musical Showboat arguably changed the Broadway theater forever when it premiered in 1927. With music by Jerome Kern and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the show deals with themes of racism, alcoholism, and spousal desertion at a time when social ills were not even a remote part of the typical Broadway fare. Kern's score was well received and contains many familiar songs like Ol' Man River. Make Believe, and Why do I love you?. But after Ol' Man River, It is probably the charming and poignant Bill that is most familiar to modern audiences. This arrangement gives the melody to a solo Alto Saxophone with a string accompaniment that preserves the early 20th-century feel of the original. It will work great on a pops concert, or as a lighter encore to a more serious saxophone concerto.

It began life as a solo piano piece back in 1980 when I was at school and stressing over my first secondary school exams. Everywhere I looked in my school I was confronted with signs that read, “Silence! Examination In Progressâ€. A comical tune started up in my head and before I knew it it grew into a piano piece, which I wrote down and played daily to help myself cope with the stress of exams. The Oak Ridge Boys, The Statler Brothers, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, George Beverly Shea and John Prine on the 2007 CD Standard Songs for Average People with Mac Wiseman. British television dramatist Dennis Potter used the gospel song prominently in several of his plays, most notably Pennies from Heaven (1978); and the song also played a major part in Gridlock (2007), an episode of the long-running sci-fi drama series Doctor Who. The commissioned work was a 58 minute film score. The music was performed alongside the film (which was projected onto a specially-build 55 foot screen).This arrangement for intermediate string orchestra captures the essence of this Romantic theme which was heard during intimate scenes.
