String Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1095833 Composed by Ronan Bodisch. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and Parts. 5 pages. Ronan Bodisch #699803. Published by Ronan Bodisch (A0.1095833). This intense and emotional piece draws inspiration from classical/romantic composers, such as Edward Elgar, while also mixing in modern elements. Performance Notes: Dissonance is very common in this piece. It will not help the orchestra if the players cower away from it, rather than play it confidently. Don't second-guess whether or not the right notes are being played. Be sensitive to whoever has the moving line, as it is passed around the orchestra. At measure 22, the Violas and Cellos should soar above the violins. At measures 26-30, everyone in the orchestra should be playing as loud as humanly possible (go crazy, go bananas), while still remaining sensitive to the moving melodies; this is the composer's signature theme. Be mindful of the key change at measure 35 (F Maj/D Min to B-Flat Maj/G Min). In the end, Violins, Violas, and Cellos should decrescendo to literally nothing on the tremolos. The basses should emphasize pizzicato, but play it lightly, rather than thunderous. The chords in the Harp and Piano should also be brought out.

Published by Mark O'Connor Musik International (A0.861927). The American Seasons (score – violin and string orchestra) MO148AScore (parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor99 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. Published by Geraldine (Denny) Green at Oakmountmusic (A0.1310636). ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSInstrumentation: Treble Recorder Solo, Harp, Violin1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello and Double BassThere is quite a lot of divisi in all of the string parts, so at least 6 players per part is preferable, except double basses where 2 players minimum are needed.Written in 1990, the Concertino For Treble Recorder, Strings And Harp, was requested by recorder player Ruth Whatley. Ruth and I were at the London College of Music together during this time. We worked together to rehearse the piece and eventually it was given a run-through by a group of string players and harpist, Alice Trentham (also at the college with us at the time). It still awaits its premiere! One day I hope I can post up a recording of this beautiful piece.A friend who attended its “play through†described it as being like “the South American Rain Forestsâ€, which I thought was a beautiful, and very fitting description.Duration: Approximately 15 minutesAll of the parts are challenging so this is not a piece for junior players.

2 Flutes and String Orchestra - advanced - SKU: S9.Q1099 Composed by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. This edition: score. Concertino. Downloadable, Score. Duration 8 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q1099. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q1099). Key: D minor.Though A.E. Brachvogel's portrayal of the failed genius in his biography about W.F. Bach drew an impressive picture of the inner turmoil of the eldest Bach son's personality, it is rather unproductive for the understanding of his music. However, legends often or mostly contain a core of truth: There is no doubt that the highly gifted musician failed because of the overwhelming example of his father (as composer) particularly since he was on the threshold from one epoch to another. In the adagio, both flute parts rising above the string orchestra are assigned a quality of expression that can already be related to the sentimental age whereas the second movement, a more or less strict string fugue, is rooted in the tradition-conscious baroque period.

String Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.533701 Composed by Carson Cooman. Baroque,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 77 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038897. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533701). Concerto for Portatif Organ and Strings (2006) was commissioned by the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra and its director, Robert Mealy. The work is dedicated to organist Nancy Granert, for whom the solo part was written. The work was commissioned in celebration of the von Clemm Chamber Organ at The Memorial Church, Harvard University, built in 2006 by Klop Organ Builders. As with many of my works, relationships between old and new musical concepts are explored. In this piece, musical aspects of the Baroque organ concerto tradition (and Baroque style string playing) co-exist with more contemporary musical elements. In particular, the directness of expression found in many Baroque concertante works is present throughout. Musical material is shared between the movements in a motivic fashion. The title of the first movement, Bricolage, is defined as “something made or put together using whatever materials happen to be available.†Thus, the musical material for the movement is of varying characters; these elements are assembled together in ways that allow them to comment on and inform each other. Some of these musical elements include: a traditional “overture†texture, a Basse de Trompette texture (with an organ reed stop in the left hand) common in French Baroque organ music, and the French keyboard toccata style. The second movement, Elegia, is dark and searching in tone. It begins with a rageful roar before quieting down to introduce its basic musical material – a simple “lament†theme in a folk-inflected style. This material is used for further explorations, building to passionate climaxes. Finally, the opening music returns, but this time with a whisper. The movement winds down to a sad conclusion. After the soul-searching of the second movement, the third movement, Rondeau, is sprightly and energetic. The basic material is a set of Baroque and Classical-style figurations (with a few American gospel inflections thrown in), firmly grounded in G major. After minor diversions, the original material continues to return and ends the work with unfettered joy.

From the composers Urban Series. This new concerto redefines the role of the modern string soloist. Fusing classical concerto form with the modern harmonic language of American rhythmic jazz, and volcanic rock-and-roll energy to this work as it transcends the typical concerto and race towards a potent visceral conclusion. Fiendishly difficult passagework and a new athleticism to the musical virtuosity as the soloist debates, collides, and duels with the orchestra. A poignant juxtaposition of primitive power of urban groove and the elegance of classical refinement. Duration 15.00 min 1perc./ strings.

Published by dorm40music.com (A0.1448335). Fünf Gesänge is the final collection of songs written by Alma Mahler and published in 1924. This arrangment is for soprano and large string orchestra. The string parts are somewhat difficult and require advanced players: college or professional. It is suggested that the orchestra consist of 16 first violins, 14 second violins, 12 violas, 10 cellos and 8 double basses to properly cover parts that are sometimes divided in each section. However, smaller ensembles will work as well.

RENAISSANCE MIX is a series of 5 dances from the Renaissance: Basse Danse, Tordion, Pavane, Galliard, and Brawles (Branles). The dances chosen to use as a basis for this composition are taken from a publication by Jacque Moderne published about 1550 under the title Frohliche Musik. These dances are truly music of great fun, and as the title suggests, happiness and joy.Renaissance Mix is written for an advanced string ensemble, or chamber group, from high school musicians through college, or amateur and professional groups. The music is accessible to players and listeners alike. It is tuneful, has powerful rhythms with interesting advanced harmonies, and deeply emotional.
