ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSSeptember 2011-Duration 4 minutes 30 seconds.  Written for Gary Woolf and the Banda Di Musica.This short waltz is named after an imaginary, childhood character of mine – a magic toy-maker. Its 2 melodies span 36 years. The first tune came to me when I was 8 years old and on holiday in the Co.Donegal town of Buncrana, west Ireland. Back then there was a small shop on Buncrana’s high street that sold everything from milk to DIY tools. And the name of the shop was “John Thinn And Sonâ€. I thought this was an awesome name and I remember the shop owner, the real Mr. Thinn, being a lovely kindly, rather shy and gentle man. And this inspired my childhood mind’s character of Mr.Thinn the magic-toy maker.  The 2nd theme arrived in September 2011 as soon as I had decided that Mr.Thinn’s first tune had waited long enough and now needed to find a permanent home. Once again writing for the wonderful Banda di musica has given me a unique chance to release an old and very special melody that has lain neglected and home-less for over 3 decades. The resulting piece is light hearted, fun and in a simple ABA form.There are 2 arrangements;No. 1 – School Arrangement ; Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No. 2 – Standard Arrangement ; Violins 1 and 2, Viola, Cello and Double BassThere are a few violin and cello solos throughout which are to be played by the section leaders. These are of moderate difficulty.

ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSWhen I was a young child and I would ask my mother for something she would often, in the midst of all her busy jobs, say to me, “Oh, give me a minuet!â€, meaning jokingly a minute, of course, before she could tend to my wishes.  This meant that I grew up believing that a minuet and a minute meant the same thing and could be equally interchanged. You can then imagine my amazement and amusement at around 13/14 years of age when I discovered through my music studies that a minuet was in fact a type of musical form and dance! Therefore, it went without saying that at some point in my music writing life I just HAD to write my Mum a minuet! So, here is the minuet she so often unwittingly asked me for throughout our lives! She attended the premiere of the Flute, violin and piano arrangement in Bolton, UK, and was highly amused (and not a little chuffed) by the story behind the piece!Naturally, the piece is dedicated to my mother, Margaret (Pearl) Denny, and was finally written in June 2015 for Gary Woolf and the Banda Di Musica in Germany.Its duration is about 7/8 minutes long and it is intended for junior strings. Violins 1 and 2 are of moderate difficulty, while the Violin 3/violas, cellos/basses are simpler.There is a violin solo throughout (moderate difficulty), to be played by the Leader, but is not a concerto-style solo, but rather one that weaves in and out of the texture throughout the piece.The piece is in a minuet and Trio style and is light, tuneful and fun. There are 3 arrangements available:No.1 – School Arrangement: Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No.2 – Standard Arrangement: Violins 1 and 2, violas, cellos, Double bassesNo.3 – Violin, flute and piano.  This arrangement is of a more advanced standard than the string orchestra arrangements and would suit players of approximately grade 7 upwards.

The volta is an anglicised name for a dance that was popular during the Renaissance. Considered at first to be slightly risqué and controversial it eventually became more respectable but never completely dignified. The first dance uses interesting cross-rhythms.In this series, Renaissance Hits for Strings, some of the most well-known dances from Terpsichore are included. They are all attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts or end-of-semester events. They are fairly easy to play too and the flexible instrumentation allows any players to take a solo with the melody part. They can be played by string quartet, string orchestra or ideally string ensemble plus any other C-pitch instruments that happen to be available. This publication consists of a score showing the four-part ensemble, keyboard and percussion parts. There are separate parts for violin 1, violin 2, viola (violin 3), cello/bass, percussion and keyboard. Additional instruments are not essential but they add contrasting tone colour. The keyboard part is intended as a guide and when possible the keyboard player should improvise around the part and chords shown. A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option.Every instrumental part (except percussion) also shows the melody line. This allows anyone to take a solo and play the melody, while the other players remain tacet. Solos can be decided in advance and the parts marked accordingly. Just cross out what you don’t need! The percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and usually include a small bass drum or hand-held drum, finger cymbals, clave or small headless tambourine. Two players are usually required and the parts can be interpreted quite freely. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.

My Mother had some sad news to give me. Dad was very ill. My whole life flashed before me. My parents were always 200% supportive of all my artistic endeavors. None of my success would have been possible but for my Dad and Mom. My memories of my Dad and my Mom flooded my mind like a deluge. When I heard the news about how gravely ill he was I thought to myself that so often we give thanks, honor, or show our love when it is too late. Who wants to be that person? I was finally in the unique position to show my gratitude and love to my parents in the most special way that I could - through music from my heart and soul. I got the courage to look deeply within and then I began to write what was to become the first and second songs, respectively Tears from My Eyes: Remember Your Feelings and Tears from My Eyes: Reflection and Contemplation on my Tears from My Eyes: Songs from my Soul album.You will now be able to do just the same for your loved ones with this new music. Your intermediate level to advanced students and even professional musicians should find this to be a welcomed piece to learn and master. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). This particular was created and produced after the Songs from My Soul album was sent for distribution. So, this song has yet to be officially released. All five movements will be released as an album Mourning in the Rain. This 5th movement Onward and Upward has a decisive emotional resolution and conviction in its pathos. The dynamics reflect accordingly ranging from mf to fff indicative of overcoming adversity and grief. Its 2 melodies span 36 years. The first tune came to me when I was 8 years old and on holiday in the Co.Donegal town of Buncrana, west Ireland. Back then there was a small shop on Buncrana’s high street that sold everything from milk to DIY tools. And the name of the shop was “John Thinn And Sonâ€. I thought this was an awesome name and I remember the shop owner, the real Mr. Thinn, being a lovely kindly, rather shy and gentle man. And this inspired my childhood mind’s character of Mr.Thinn the magic-toy maker.  The 2nd theme arrived in September 2011 as soon as I had decided that Mr.Thinn’s first tune had waited long enough and now needed to find a permanent home. Once again writing for the wonderful Banda di musica has given me a unique chance to release an old and very special melody that has lain neglected and home-less for over 3 decades. The resulting piece is light hearted, fun and in a simple ABA form.There are 2 arrangements;No. 1 – School Arrangement ; Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No. 2 – Standard Arrangement ; Violins 1 and 2, Viola, Cello and Double BassThere are a few violin and cello solos throughout which are to be played by the section leaders. ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSWhen I was a young child and I would ask my mother for something she would often, in the midst of all her busy jobs, say to me, “Oh, give me a minuet!â€, meaning jokingly a minute, of course, before she could tend to my wishes.  This meant that I grew up believing that a minuet and a minute meant the same thing and could be equally interchanged. You can then imagine my amazement and amusement at around 13/14 years of age when I discovered through my music studies that a minuet was in fact a type of musical form and dance! Therefore, it went without saying that at some point in my music writing life I just HAD to write my Mum a minuet! So, here is the minuet she so often unwittingly asked me for throughout our lives! She attended the premiere of the Flute, violin and piano arrangement in Bolton, UK, and was highly amused (and not a little chuffed) by the story behind the piece!Naturally, the piece is dedicated to my mother, Margaret (Pearl) Denny, and was finally written in June 2015 for Gary Woolf and the Banda Di Musica in Germany.Its duration is about 7/8 minutes long and it is intended for junior strings. Violins 1 and 2 are of moderate difficulty, while the Violin 3/violas, cellos/basses are simpler.There is a violin solo throughout (moderate difficulty), to be played by the Leader, but is not a concerto-style solo, but rather one that weaves in and out of the texture throughout the piece.The piece is in a minuet and Trio style and is light, tuneful and fun. There are 3 arrangements available:No.1 – School Arrangement: Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No.2 – Standard Arrangement: Violins 1 and 2, violas, cellos, Double bassesNo.3 – Violin, flute and piano.  This arrangement is of a more advanced standard than the string orchestra arrangements and would suit players of approximately grade 7 upwards.

Since tradition demanded that the German Princess Caecilie adopt a Russian name - Olga Feodorovna - before her marriage, so Johann's Caecilien-Polka also underwent a change of identity. On that day, amid accompanying splendour, the music-loving Grand Duke Michail Nikolaievich (1832-1909), youngest brother of Tsar Alexander II, married Princess Caecilie of Baden (1839-91), daughter of Archduke Leopold of Baden. Johann Strauss, who at that time was giving a summer season of concerts in nearby Pavlovsk, used the opportunity occasioned by the event to enhance his already enviable popularity with the Russian royal family and composed the Caecilien-Polka in honour of the lovely young bride. Indeed, it is clear from a letter which Johann wrote in late July 1857 to Carl Haslinger, his publisher in Vienna, that the new polka had been prepared well in advance of the wedding (the fair copy of the full orchestral score made for the publisher's engraver is dated 9 August) and was enjoying success even before the royal couple's official engagement on 16August 1857. Sometime after performing the Caecilien-Polka in Pavlovsk, Johann despatched the work to the Austrian capital where his brother Josef conducted its Viennese première, together with that of Johann's waltz Telegraphische Depeschen (op. 195, Volume 28), at his own benefit concert in the Volksgartenon Sunday 18 October 1857. The Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (16.10.1857) remarked that both works have caused a sensation in St. Petersburg and are truly genial Viennese sounds full of verve and melody. Since tradition demanded that the German Princess Caecilie adopt a Russian name - Olga Feodorovna - before her marriage, so Johann's Caecilien-Polka also underwent a change of identity. On 8 December 1857 Carl Haslinger announced the publication of Strauss's Olga-Polka, on the title page of which is the inscription: Dedicated to her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga, née Princess of Baden. It was under this title, too, that Johann himself first conducted the work in Vienna at a concert in the Volksgarten on 1 November 1857, shortly after his return from Russia. It consists of six short pieces written or revised between 1893 and 1896, to mark the birthdays and other events in the life of the daughter of the composer's mistress, Emma Bardac.An orchestral version of the suite was scored in 1906 by Henri Rabaud, and has, like the original piano duet version, been the subject of many recordings. The best-known section of the suite, the Berceuse, has been arranged for several combinations of instruments. In the United Kingdom it became famous as the play-out tune to the BBC radio programme Listen with Mother.The suite consists of six short pieces, each with its own title: Berceuse, Mi-a-ou, Le jardin de Dolly, Kitty-valse, Tendresse, and Le pas espagnol. The complete suite takes about fifteen minutes to perform.The Berceuse was the closing theme for the long-running BBC Light Programme (and later Home Service) radio programme for small children Listen with Mother (1950–1982). It is performed in the film Bicentennial Man by Andrew and Little Miss. Although it was written as a piano duet, there have been numerous arrangements of the Berceuse for other instruments and ensembles. Examples include versions for piano and glockenspiel by Evelyn Glennie and for two guitars recorded by Julian Bream and John Williams.

This great American standard, Day By Day, written by Sammy Cahn, Axel Stordahl, and Paul Weston was recorded by Frank Sinatra on Columbia Records on August 22, 1945. It has been covered by many jazz artists and is usually presented as a ballad. This arrangement has a light Bossa Nova flavor and will be enjoyed by all of your audiences. A suggested jazz solo is written out in the Violin 1 part and chords are presented in all parts to afford additional opportunities for students to improvise. All parts remain in first position with the exception of Violin 1 that has a range to high D. There is a mixture of pizzicato and arco to enhance the flavor, and a Violin 3 part is included to bolster the Viola section. The guitar part is optional but when added will create the true Bossa flavor.

The bass too is kept quite busy, and the violin 2 alternate nicely with the first violins. All in all a nice piece for young string players. .

This selection works from dissonance into consonant harmonies as it progresses. There is a brief recognizable melody that brings the piece together for an uplifting finale. The challenging 1st violin range and the use of double stops makes this a challenging, but accessible work for most high school ensembles. .
