This piece is arranged so that almost all the harmonic and rhythmic parts are covered. The download includes A conductors score, Violin I, Violin II, Viola and Cello/Bass parts. Feel free to reprint practise and performance copies. The IVth movement of the (supposedly) opium fuelled programmatic work depicts the death of the main character in a dream as he cannot be with his beloved. As he is being processed towards the scaffold, hints of his love (the idée fixe) appear through the music. Towards the end of the piece, just before his death on the scaffold, he clearly sees his love (Violin solo with the idée fixe) before his head is sent rolling.2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry

The story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, is surely an interesting one, even the stuff of which movies are made.Joseph Bologne’s father, Georges Bologne de Saint-Georges was a French planter. Saint-Georges was the name of his plantation. He impregnated Anne, the Senegalese slave of his wife, who bore him a son in 1745. Uncharacteristic of many of these sort of relationships he acknowledged the child was his and gave him his family name. When he was seven Bologne’s father took him to Paris for his education, enrolling him in a boarding school.
