This soon leads into a lively folk-like Moderato Dance section with a great catchy tune and punchy rhythms. These two different sections compliment one another, adding variety and excitement as they repeat themselves half way through so that both melodies get plenty of work-out! The piece would very much suit young players, although amateurs and professionals alike can enjoy it.

ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSWhen I was a young child and I would ask my mother for something she would often, in the midst of all her busy jobs, say to me, “Oh, give me a minuet!â€, meaning jokingly a minute, of course, before she could tend to my wishes.  This meant that I grew up believing that a minuet and a minute meant the same thing and could be equally interchanged. You can then imagine my amazement and amusement at around 13/14 years of age when I discovered through my music studies that a minuet was in fact a type of musical form and dance! Therefore, it went without saying that at some point in my music writing life I just HAD to write my Mum a minuet! So, here is the minuet she so often unwittingly asked me for throughout our lives! She attended the premiere of the Flute, violin and piano arrangement in Bolton, UK, and was highly amused (and not a little chuffed) by the story behind the piece!Naturally, the piece is dedicated to my mother, Margaret (Pearl) Denny, and was finally written in June 2015 for Gary Woolf and the Banda Di Musica in Germany.Its duration is about 7/8 minutes long and it is intended for junior strings. Violins 1 and 2 are of moderate difficulty, while the Violin 3/violas, cellos/basses are simpler.There is a violin solo throughout (moderate difficulty), to be played by the Leader, but is not a concerto-style solo, but rather one that weaves in and out of the texture throughout the piece.The piece is in a minuet and Trio style and is light, tuneful and fun. There are 3 arrangements available:No.1 – School Arrangement: Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No.2 – Standard Arrangement: Violins 1 and 2, violas, cellos, Double bassesNo.3 – Violin, flute and piano.  This arrangement is of a more advanced standard than the string orchestra arrangements and would suit players of approximately grade 7 upwards.

It is a tone poem or a sound piece that was composed for a second year String Orchestra. It tells the story of a winter day that starts out cold and peaceful but soon the snow starts to fall and the winds start to pick up. Before long, a winter storm has arrived! You will hear many winter tunes stated briefly throughout. These represent various melodies that are carried around by the wind. You will hear the Hallelujah Chorus when school is cancelled! I hope it makes you think of snowmen, sledding, ice skating and snowballs flying. It is composed in D major and 4/4 time, with a simple yet catchy melody. Vln 1 does go to an open E while the bass NEVER needs to play above A. Written for 3 part string orchestra and piano, it introduces DC al Fine, uses pizz and arco in the violin and viola section, forte and mezzo forte dynamics, simple 2 part harmony and uses only half-notes, quarter-notes and quarter-rests. It is a great piece for that end of the year concert. Key of D, Grade .5-1 4/4 time Everyone needs to know the D scale.

A comical tune started up in my head and before I knew it it grew into a piano piece, which I wrote down and played daily to help myself cope with the stress of exams. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522247). Shetland Sunrise is a movement from Colin Kirkpatrick's suite for elementary string orchestra entitled “Atlantic Highwayâ€. Ideal for end-of-semester concerts or any other school or college concert occasion, these tuneful and attractive pieces are bound to please audience and instrumentalists alike. The work is scored for violins 1 and 2, viola (with an identical but optional part for violin 3 in treble clef), cello, double bass and piano (or digital keyboard). The piano part is an integral part of music and therefore essential. However, it’s not especially difficult and perfectly manageable by the intermediate pianist. All the string parts can be played in first position. Pizzicato is used extensively in the double bass part and in some of the passages for the upper strings. Shetland Sunrise is in G major throughout and the time signature begins in 5/8. This might look a bit daunting to elementary places not used to seeing it but the music is a good deal easier than it appears. Because every 5/8 measure (bar) naturally falls into groups of 3 and 2 beats, the players should be told to count 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, rather than one to five. They will soon pick up the irregular lilting rhythm. There are also a couple of measures of 7/8 in this piece, which should be counted as 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2. The string parts have been produced in fairly large type making them ideal for elementary players. Cues have been added where necessary.

Bird, Bird, Blue Bird Op.152 Traditional songs can be said to be music that contains the life and soul of a country. Along with Korea’s representative folk song “Arirang,†“Bird, Bird, Bluebird†is also music that contains the life and soul of ancestors, and is a valuable cultural heritage of Korea. A quiet and lyrical theme gradually escalates and repeats itself. Subsequently, the theme is played alternately for each part with the tonal change of the circle of perfect fifths descending for each part. At the end of the cadenza, the theme is played with harmonics that give an oriental feel. The bass and treble parts alternately play the main theme, and in the finale, the majestic chords and tense notes create a sense of musical height and end in a passionate atmosphere.
