The mysterious intro leads into driving quarter notes, challenging students with changing syncopations and accent patterns. The chorus has a galloping, cinematic feel, which quickly comes down for a verse featuring melody in the low strings. A chorale-like chorus allows students to focus on expression and legato playing. After a grand pause, the violins pick it up into the galloping final chorus with added technical sixteenth notes and the chart ends with a ritardando into a sustained minor chord. He is most well known for his performance career as a classical crossover and popular music artist with 11 CD recordings, numerous awards and accolades, and performances with the likes of Luciano Pavorotti, Julio Iglesias, and Joan Baez. Before this, he was a founding member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, as well as playing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. When he is not spending time with his wife of 46 years, his three middle-aged children, and his two grandchildren, he spends his time and energy teaching, writing, arranging, and performing. Vivaldi's Concerto RV 93 was originally written for lute or guitar solo plus strings and basso continuo. Here, the 1st movement of the concerto has been arranged for an intermediate-level student string orchestra without continuo or piano accompaniment. To this end, the work has been simplified: the original key of D major has been changed to C major; some rhythms have been simplified, including doubling all note values and changing the time signature to 2/2; some registers have been changed in order to keep parts in 1st position; and extensive dynamics and articulations have been added to assist students with musical interpretation according to Baroque music conventions. That said, some crescendos have been added for effect. It is anticipated that the one repeat will be done, as is traditional. The upper strings are expected to be able to play low 2nd and 4th fingers, and the cellos have both backward and forward extensions but only leave 1st position in two short identical passages. But in Voila Viola!, the viola is the star! The cheerful melody allows room for the viola to really express itself while being backed by moving harmonies. This piece is great for teaching timing and listening to the other players. Wide ranging eighth notes dominate this piece with emphasis on the viola's changing melodies while the backing harmonies keep the piece with the playfulness of pizzicato.

The piece begins with unison ideas (pitch, rhythm and bowing), then begins to expand, encouraging each section to gain some independence. We reset, and expand further. This process continues until the contrapuntal lines create complex harmonic textures that travel in unexpected directions, yet make musical sense. Much like an individual’s own journey, the path taken is not always direct and clear, but the end result is musically satisfying.Significant attention music be placed on dynamics throughout.From a technique standpoint, this work asks the most of the bass section. The shifting requests in the other sections are minimal, although there are sufficient opportunities to shift should student and/or teacher choose. Bow placement and control, tone production and ensemble balance are where much of the focused work will be required from students.

It's an understated accompaniment for strings plus glockenspiel (can be played by any bells, or on keyboard). I raised it a half step from the original Db to D (for ease of playing by strings). I shortened the original's fantasia to keep the focus on the vocalist. The only complicated part of this arrangement is a brief 5/4 section, which is delightful and reinforces the lyrics that tout the ease of changing your world, but may be cut if it's too difficult to sight read. Harald Genzmer has done a great deal for the promotion of young musical talent, and no doubt many a string instrument player can recall from their school orchestra days when his Sinfonietta was on the programme. But this highly prominent Hindemith pupil has written yet more of this educational music: all in all 3 sinfoniettas, in addition to collections of easy movements such as '14 Easy Pieces for String Orchestra' from 2002 which is also suitable for a Streicherschule. The individual movements involve specific styles and demands: cantabile playing, unusual and changing time signatures, bowing, pizzicato, intonation, scale playing, and so forth. The use of a double-bass is ad libitum. The pieces can be played separately or as little suites and are ideal for school and amateur orchestras; and regardless of it's educational nature, this music is lively and fun to play!

There is no 'oom pa pa' underlying rhythm anywhere in the composition. This is what gives the composition its unbalanced or 'wandering' style.
