Following an interim of fourteen years since the completion of the work’s first Image in 1998, Sarah Wallin Huff completed this suite of Images for violin duo, piano, soprano saxophone, and string orchestra in 2005, with final official revisions completed in 2012. Each Image had seen its own time of creation as independent works throughout those years, until Wallin Huff ultimately wove the three together into an epic musical journey in 2005. These highly cinematic movements depict an unnamed hero's personal journey from loneliness and uncertainty to triumph. The Triptych consists of the following Three Images: I. A Garden Prayer, for violin duo and piano II. Broken Innocence, for soprano saxophone and string orchestra III. Valiance, for soprano saxophone, piano, and string orchestra.

Each instrumentalist plays one and only one note throughout the entire piece. There are no expression markings – only dynamics. There are no special techniques. Each performer is “self-isolatingâ€. 2. 48 instrumentalists – 24 violins, 10 violas, 8 cellos, 6 double basses. The entire ensemble covers four chromatic octaves. 3. Vibrato consistent across all instrumentalists. 4. No liberty with rhythm. Follow exactly as written. 5. This may be considered an etude – a study of volume. All instrumentalists should be consistent in their interpretation of each dynamic. pppp should be extremely quiet but still audible. 6. The change in volume for crescendos and decrescendos should be gradual – reaching end dynamic in a legato, smooth manner. 7. The visual of the dynamics in the full score – often depicts the program – like hieroglyphics. Or, in some cases, like the image of an organism viewed through a microscope. 8. Optional – performers may wear masks during performance. And, if space permits, have 6 feet social distancing between performers.

Published by Richard Byrnes (A0.1103756).  This is the 10th Prelude of Volume 1 of Debussy’s Preludes for piano.  This piece depicts the rising of a submerged cathedral. It is derived from a Breton myth. The cathedral, according to legend, rises from the sea off the coast of the Island of Ys on clear mornings. After it’s entrance, the cathedral sinks back into the sea.  This is a striking example of what is considered musical impressionism – the allusion to an image.  This arrangement by Richard Byrnes is for 9 Violins, 4 Celli, Bass, & Contrabassoon.  In addition to works by Debussy, we offer works by J.S. Published by Jason Gary McChristian (A0.886139). The Great Blue Heron was inspired by the relatively large, wading bird, commonly found in North and Central America. The name of this bird has always conjured in me an image of something of such immense size and, yet, unbelievable beauty and wonder. Something bsoth terrifying and awe-inspiring. Musically speaking, this work is an arabesque, a short, single movement containing ornamentation. This term is also in art to describe works that contain two flowing, decorative motifs in the shape of S and U. In ballet, it is used to describe the shape and movement of a spiral. The gestures of this work follow the contour of these shapes and movements and embody the arabesque in all of these forms.

It follows a typical North German structure with three main sections - a free opening (toccata), a fugal section (fugue), and a short free closing section. The exact date of composition is uncertain, but it's believed to have been written before 1708. There is no surviving autograph manuscript. The oldest known source is an undated copy by Johannes Ringk, a student of one of Bach's pupils. It was first published in 1833 through the efforts of composer Felix Mendelssohn during the early Bach Revival period. It gained widespread recognition after being featured in Disney's 1940 film Fantasia, which Leopold Stokowski adapted for orchestra. The piece has become strongly associated with horror films and Gothic imagery in Western culture. The Toccata begins with dramatic flourishes and arpeggios, showcasing the organist's virtuosity. The fugue is characterized by overlapping repetitions of the central theme in different melodic lines. It employs simple triadic harmony but includes some unexpected elements, such as a C minor subject entry and a solo pedal statement.
