I arranged this for my own beginner orchestra. Easy to rehearse and perform. Very popular with the audience. Sonata Op. 49 No. 2 Arranged from Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 20, this is a simple but interesting work in two movements showing the composers sense of humor. The first movement Allegro ma non troppo and the second movement Tempo di Menuetto are both in the key of G. Both Sonatas 19 and 20 (op. 49, No. 1 & 2) are named Easy Sonatas because they are technically easier than the usual Beethoven Sonatas. This makes them very popular among students and teachers alike. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna the rest of his life. In his late 20s it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies therefore belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Por muito tempo essa peça ficou guardada na gaveta, até que decidi trazê-la à luz. A inspiração par a essa peça, como o próprio nome diz, vem do vasto repertório da música barroca. Isso pode ser observado no formato do concerto desde o primeiro movimento. O segundo movimento também trás um toque do perÃodo clássico enquanto que o terceiro busca elementos vistos nos dois primeiros, mas terminando em um finale pomposo e majestoso.It is with great pleasure that I present Barók, the first concert I wrote when I was still studying violin at the music conservatory. For a long time this piece was kept in the drawer, until I decided to bring it ti light. The inspiration for this piece, as the name implies, comes from the vast repertoire of baroque music. This can be seen in the format of the concerto from the firts to last movements. The second movement also brings a touch of the classical period while the third moves towards elements seen in the first two, but ending in a po,pous and majestic finale.

The five movements of the work draw upon stylistic elements of Medieval and Renaissance music. I. Estampie II. Aria III. Echo Gigue IV. Ground (in memoriam Lee Hoiby) V. Estampie da capo Orchestra details: A small string orchestra is suggested. String quintet may be used if necessary (although the first violin part in the second movement will be nearly entirely double stops). Though it is not preferred, the recorder may be discretely amplified if necessary, particularly if using a large string orchestra. A piano reduction is provided primarily for rehearsal purposes. If absolutely necessary, the work may be performed in concert with piano, although the string scoring is vastly preferred.

Published by MA Lass & I Lass (A0.1417819). Martin Lass is an Australian violinist, composer, arranger, and teacher. He is most well known for his performance career as a classical crossover and popular music artist with 11 CD recordings, numerous awards and accolades, and performances with the likes of Luciano Pavorotti, Julio Iglesias, and Joan Baez. Before this, he was a founding member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, as well as playing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. When he is not spending time with his wife of 46 years, his three middle-aged children, and his two grandchildren, he spends his time and energy teaching, writing, arranging, and performing. Vivaldi's Concerto RV 93 was originally written for lute or guitar solo plus strings and basso continuo. Here, the 1st movement of the concerto has been arranged for an intermediate-level student string orchestra without continuo or piano accompaniment. To this end, the work has been simplified: the original key of D major has been changed to C major; some rhythms have been simplified, including doubling all note values and changing the time signature to 2/2; some registers have been changed in order to keep parts in 1st position; and extensive dynamics and articulations have been added to assist students with musical interpretation according to Baroque music conventions. That said, some crescendos have been added for effect. It is anticipated that the one repeat will be done, as is traditional. The upper strings are expected to be able to play low 2nd and 4th fingers, and the cellos have both backward and forward extensions but only leave 1st position in two short identical passages. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533114). The Concertino for alto saxophone and string orchestra was written for and is dedicated to saxophonist Nuno Miguel Silva. The work is in three movements. The first movement, “Introduction and Allegro†begins with an introductory passage which leads to an extended cadenza. The allegro uses a contrasting set of two themes, one of which is syncopated and dancelike, the other which is lyrical and expressive. The Aria which follows is in an ABA lied form with extended passage work for the soloist at the return of the theme. The Rondo-finale is a rollicking scherzo which is presented in a variety of forms, first in the saxophone and then in the violins, after several developmental passages and a final cadenza, returns to end the work with a final flourish. A reduction for alto saxophone is avaialble as a different item. The orchestral parts are available on rentel from the publisher.

While the Twelve Days of Christmas has long been a Christmas holiday favorite, you’ve never heard it played like this before. Here is an opportunity for the musical AND comedic talents of one of your most advanced players to be featured! The soloist plays the role of an accomplished, yet most pretentious and self-aggrandizing soloist. The accompanying orchestra parts are not difficult, although a more advanced orchestra will be able to make even more of the light-hearted and occasionally dramatic accompaniment. A two-page outline of suggestions are also provided to help enhance the comedy, but you are invited to put your own comedic stamp on the performance. Early in the work, the soloist has a few very simple solo passages which he or she deftly and smugly executes flawlessly. As the music proceeds, the soloist is highlighted with several showy, but brief, cadenzas. The mood then changes and becomes melodramatic and sorrowful, perhaps requiring a stagehand to produce a handkerchief and dry the tears of the soloist (and perhaps the conductor). The work ultimately concludes in a joyful and spirited manner. Your audience will long remember Fantasy on the Twelve Days of Christmas. Arranged for Solo Cello with string orchestra, optional solo parts for viola and for violin are also provided.

At 5 mins 30 secs duration, this all-first-position piece makes an excellent concert feature for the ensemble that is finding its voice, but may not yet be up to the level of multi-position full-fledged classical string music. The tempo is stately without being draggy, the mood is somber but not dark, and tuneful without being busy or meandering. The key signature of one sharp makes this nicely adapted to teaching and performance by students, while the rich writing makes it quite presentable to an adult concert audience.The bowings are by string pedagogue Lori Sandell Lacey. The PDF provided here is a score, and a single part for each section. Multiple printings of each part, as needed for your ensemble, are permissible, of course. There are NO notes out of first position, or outside the range of the second year of string pedagogy, the basses having a bit more need to move up 1/2 position for each string. n There are no trills or fast passages across strings.
