William Boyce (September 11, 1711 - February 7, 1779) is widely regarded as one of the most important English-born composers of the 18th century.
Born in London, Boyce was a choirboy at St Paul's Cathedral before studying music with Maurice Greene after his voice broke. His first professional appointment came in 1734 when he got a job as an organist at the Oxford Chapel. He went on to take a number of similar posts before being appointed Master of the King's Musick in 1755 and becoming organist at the Chapel Royal in 1758.
His Symphony No. 1 is scored for 2 Oboes and Strings but it will work perfectly with just strings.

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533701). Concerto for Portatif Organ and Strings (2006) was commissioned by the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra and its director, Robert Mealy. The work is dedicated to organist Nancy Granert, for whom the solo part was written. The work was commissioned in celebration of the von Clemm Chamber Organ at The Memorial Church, Harvard University, built in 2006 by Klop Organ Builders.As with many of my works, relationships between old and new musical concepts are explored. In this piece, musical aspects of the Baroque organ concerto tradition (and Baroque style string playing) co-exist with more contemporary musical elements. In particular, the directness of expression found in many Baroque concertante works is present throughout. Musical material is shared between the movements in a motivic fashion.The title of the first movement, Bricolage, is defined as “something made or put together using whatever materials happen to be available.†Thus, the musical material for the movement is of varying characters; these elements are assembled together in ways that allow them to comment on and inform each other. Some of these musical elements include: a traditional “overture†texture, a Basse de Trompette texture (with an organ reed stop in the left hand) common in French Baroque organ music, and the French keyboard toccata style.The second movement, Elegia, is dark and searching in tone. It begins with a rageful roar before quieting down to introduce its basic musical material – a simple “lament†theme in a folk-inflected style. This material is used for further explorations, building to passionate climaxes. Finally, the opening music returns, but this time with a whisper. The movement winds down to a sad conclusion.After the soul-searching of the second movement, the third movement, Rondeau, is sprightly and energetic. The basic material is a set of Baroque and Classical-style figurations (with a few American gospel inflections thrown in), firmly grounded in G major. After minor diversions, the original material continues to return and ends the work with unfettered joy.

The work wascommissioned in celebration of the von Clemm Chamber Organ at The MemorialChurch, Harvard University, built in 2006 by Klop Organ Builders.As with many of my works, relationships between old and new musical concepts areexplored. In this piece, musical aspects of the Baroque organ concerto tradition(and Baroque style string playing) co-exist with more contemporary musicalelements. In particular, the directness of expression found in many Baroqueconcertante works is present throughout. Musical material is shared between themovements in a motivic fashion.The title of the first movement, Bricolage, is defined as “something made or puttogether using whatever materials happen to be available.†Thus, the musicalmaterial for the movement is of varying characters; these elements are assembledtogether in ways that allow them to comment on and inform each other. Some ofthese musical elements include: a traditional “overture†texture, a Basse deTrompette texture (with an organ reed stop in the left hand) common in FrenchBaroque organ music, and the French keyboard toccata style.The second movement, Elegia, is dark and searching in tone. It begins with arageful roar before quieting down to introduce its basic musical material – a simple“lament†theme in a folk-inflected style. This material is used for further explorations,building to passionate climaxes. Finally, the opening music returns, but this timewith a whisper. The movement winds down to a sad conclusion.After the soul-searching of the second movement, the third movement, Rondeau, issprightly and energetic. The basic material is a set of Baroque and Classical-stylefigurations (with a few American gospel inflections thrown in), firmly grounded in Gmajor. After minor diversions, the original material continues to return and ends thework with unfettered joy.This item is the score only. Its characteristic rhythm was the dotted-eighth-sixteenth figure, which is used throughout this piece. The real substance of this composition is not the dance form, however, but the strict and highly evocative use of the ascending and descending forms of the melodic minor scale. Since this was such a Baroque Era staple, I felt the piece had to use Baroque forms, techniques and structures as well. So, the key is D minor. C and Bb going down, B and C# going up. No accidentals but these were used. D minor is not the happiest of keys, and accordingly the mood here is somber. The orchestral texture is NOT rich and lush, like other pieces in the series, but is thinner and more contrapuntally transparent. There are three internal cadences before the ending sequence. Suspensions, voice leading, and dissonances are all treated in a standard Baroque fashion. Bowings by string pedagogue Lori Sandell Lacey. Running time is approx 3 mins 30 secs.at suggested tempo. The piece could certainly go faster if your group can handle it. Each part is but a single page, for easy management of music in rehearsal and performance. MBB.

The work was surely composed between 1725 and 1734.[2]  It is copied in full score format.In the known catalog of Vivaldi’s works we find another piece that shares the same title, it is the Sonata à 4 al Santo Sepolcro (Sonata in E flat major RV 130). Both pieces feature a similar structure: a slow introduction and a fugal movement.Sepolcri, or oratorios for the sepulchre, were a kind of composition that was performed at the Viennese courts during Holy Week. These were semi-staged oratorios. The examples that survive by Caldara or Fux show how the introductions of these oratorios always had the same scheme: a slow introduction followed by a fugal movement, just like the RV 169 and RV 130.These compositions are undoubtedly inspired by the Viennese, although it seems unlikely that Vivaldi wrote them as a commissioned work. However, it is possible that they were composed to support his application to the Viennese court.It is also quite probable that these pieces were intended to accompany some of the liturgical actions that were celebrated between Holy Thursday and Holy Saturday, such as the visit to the Sepulchers in Venetian churches.

It follows a typical North German structure with three main sections - a free opening (toccata), a fugal section (fugue), and a short free closing section. The exact date of composition is uncertain, but it's believed to have been written before 1708. There is no surviving autograph manuscript. The oldest known source is an undated copy by Johannes Ringk, a student of one of Bach's pupils. It was first published in 1833 through the efforts of composer Felix Mendelssohn during the early Bach Revival period. It gained widespread recognition after being featured in Disney's 1940 film Fantasia, which Leopold Stokowski adapted for orchestra. The piece has become strongly associated with horror films and Gothic imagery in Western culture. The Toccata begins with dramatic flourishes and arpeggios, showcasing the organist's virtuosity. The fugue is characterized by overlapping repetitions of the central theme in different melodic lines. It is more likely that the composer was W. F. Bach. It is a French suite with an overture and several dances, which has a similar structure with the 4 orchestral suites by J. S. Bach. But one point making it different from the 4 orchestral suites by J. S. Bach is that it has one movement not in the home key (which is the Aria in E-flat major). Published by Yves Bouillot (A0.1269267). Les Fêtes vénitiennes (or, in the original spelling, Les Festes vénitiennes) is an opera-ballet by French composer André Campra. The opera-ballet consists of a prologue and three entries. It was performed for the first time at the Royal Academy of Music on June 17, 1710, in the Salle du Palais-Royal. According to the usage of the time, the work is described as ballet, but it is one of the most important examples of a new genre that specialists will later agree to call opera-ballet. . The chaconne is a popular dance song, in three beats of lively character, originating in America, during the Vice-Kingdom of New Spain and brought to Spain by sailors. Transplanted then in other European countries at the beginning of the XVIIth century, it becomes a dance of noble character there then is approached by the instruments, in orchestra or soloists. It is then a piece of large proportions, in triple time, slow and solemn, based on the repetition and variation of a theme.

He is most well known for his performance career as a classical crossover and popular music artist with 11 CD recordings, numerous awards and accolades, and performances with the likes of Luciano Pavorotti, Julio Iglesias, and Joan Baez. Before this, he was a founding member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, as well as playing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. When he is not spending time with his wife of 46 years, his three middle-aged children, and his two grandchildren, he spends his time and energy teaching, writing, arranging, and performing. Vivaldi's Concerto RV 93 was originally written for lute or guitar solo plus strings and basso continuo. Here, the 1st movement of the concerto has been arranged for an intermediate-level student string orchestra without continuo or piano accompaniment. To this end, the work has been simplified: the original key of D major has been changed to C major; some rhythms have been simplified, including doubling all note values and changing the time signature to 2/2; some registers have been changed in order to keep parts in 1st position; and extensive dynamics and articulations have been added to assist students with musical interpretation according to Baroque music conventions. That said, some crescendos have been added for effect. It is anticipated that the one repeat will be done, as is traditional. The upper strings are expected to be able to play low 2nd and 4th fingers, and the cellos have both backward and forward extensions but only leave 1st position in two short identical passages.
