Matt Arnett Music #684341. Published by Matt Arnett Music (A0.1080129). This song works shockingly well for orchestra - and everyone gets something fun to play. I did this arrangement with 2nd year students in mind. The piece is really good for focusing on low 2's in the violin and viola, dotted quarter AND triplet rhythms for everyone, and rests on beat 1. The rhythms are almost always true to the original - listen to it with your students to help them feel the tricky spots. You need a strong bass laying down the harmonic foundation throughout for this to work, cello is not doubling. There are usually three independent rhythmic parts going on, which presents a fun challenge and makes the layers of the piece fun and interesting. The piece also utilizes some fun techniques including stomping on the floor (sounds awesome on stage!) and knocking on the back of the instrument. There is an optional cut to remove the bridge if the piece is too much/too long for your group. This piece is a blast to play and I hope your students enjoy it!

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.532834). Thérèse Brenet was attracted to the Chinese poems in La Flûte de Jade by Franz Toussaint. She chose seven of these poems in a contrasting style and assembled them into a single work, striving to create an unusual orchestration which reflects this delicate, fantastic and sensual qualities of these poems. Her orchestration uses a small group of strings which are re-enforced by a harpsichord, a vibraphone, a harp and percussion, often superimposed, which serve to underline the delicate character of the poems. IN addition, she uses all styles of vocal production, from whispered passages to spoken words or screams, and from singing normally to sprechgesang. The work finishes serenely with a long melody in flute upon which the baritone repeats the last phrases of the poem in a long perdendosi. The voice and the flute slowly die away without there being a definite ending to the work, which allow the listener to imagine that the work continues, as in a waking dream. One could imagine hearing the echo of the words whispered by the baritone and the arien and luminous sounds of the flute which has lulled us as a soloist throughout the seven poems of the cycle. The orchestration is for 4 percussion, harp, harpsichord, piano and strings (44221). The piece generally lasts approximately fourteen minutes. The composer has intentionally broken with tradition by using instrumental notation for the vovcal part. This notations gives, in her view, a greater ease of reading when the voice exchanges with the flute. This version for flute, voice and piano is identical, as much as is possible, with the orchestral version, excpet for short segments in the 5th and 7th poems. These differences only affect the flute and piano parts and do not affect the vocal part. The Baritone may therefore use this score for performances with orchestra. The Flutist should use the part included in the orchestral parts for performances with orchestra. This work was first performed at the Villa Medicis during Thérèse Brenet time spend there during her Prix de Rome voyage. It was recorded in 2014 with Kurt Ollmann Baritone, Christel Rayneau, flute and the National Polish Radio Orchestra under the direction of Paul Wehage. The orchestral materials are on rental from the publisher.

Their part doubles the violin/viola parts in most places, but there’s a part near the middle where their part varies to add complexity to the counterpoint. 6.    The foundational violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, and trumpet parts (normal sheet music) are in unison. We performed this music at a variety of venues, including several pubs, in the youth hostels where we stayed, on the street, and at the unique “Teach Ceoil†(Gaelic for Music House) in Tully Cross, County Galway. Starting with traditional Irish tunes, it continues with some Old Time American tunes and songs. There are some rags and some bluegrass. The Walker Street Fiddlers Ireland Tour 2007 is a collection of tunes that my group, “The Walker Street Fiddlers†played on their trip to Ireland in the summer of ‘07! We performed this music at a variety of venues, including several pubs, in the youth hostels where we stayed, on the street, and at the unique “Teach Ceoil†(Gaelic for Music House) in Tully Cross, County Galway. Starting with traditional Irish tunes, it continues with some Old Time American tunes and songs. There are some rags and some bluegrass. The Tunes are: Okeefe;s, Bring Back the Child, Padraig OKeefe’s, The Maid of Armagh, Britches full of Stitches, Sullivan’s, Ten Penny Bit, The Old Favorite, Dinkies, Rollin’ in the Rye Grass, Southwind, Fairwind, Julia Delaney, Star of Muster, Old Hag You Have Killed Me, Morrison’s, Father Kelly’s, Congress Reel, Ducks on the Pond, Shady Grove, Simple Gifts, Keep on the Sunny Side, Back up and Push, Stone’s Rag, Pig Ankle Rag, Billy in the Lowground, Devil’s Dream. Included here is a quick listen Mp3 to hear how the tunes are presented, and a Youtube link to the first set of tunes in the collection. Originally the second movement of a brass sextet, this begged to be arranged and adapted for string orchestra. Sasha was a beautiful husky that lived with me for fourteen years and the writing of this was part of my grieving process. His name is spelled out at one point in the score and the main melody is a bit of a nonsense song I used to sing to him. This elegy will move both performers and listeners.
