String Orchestra - Level 2 - SKU: A0.987732 Composed by Dana Taylor. Baroque,Contemporary. Score and parts. 13 pages. Dana Taylor Music #27293. Published by Dana Taylor Music (A0.987732). A passacaglia is ... a musical form that is usually of a serious character and is often, but not always, based on a bass-ostinato and written in triple meter. from Wikipedia. THIS passacaglia is a slow theme and variations, in a minor mode, with a bass ostinato. The only difficult part is dealing with the counterpoint, but it is worth the effort, it will impress your audience, and is fun to play. I HAVE 3 versions; this one is for string orchestra version I HAVE uploaded a PDF with the individual string parts. I ALSO,have a version for piano, viola and double bass/cello, with parts, AND a mambo version for Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, String Bass and 4-part latin percussion., with parts. YOU could make a whole concert out this one piece!

Most of the contemporary/popular titles include a chord chart for a bass instrument.PRACTICE needs would vary according to the level of the performers but my goal is to be sight-readable for most performers and groups. String Orchestra - Level 3 - SKU: A0.989195 By Daniel Carr. By Daniel Carr. Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV,Sacred,Video Game. Score and parts. 588 pages. Daniel Carr #594865. Published by Daniel Carr (A0.989195). Virus was composed during and about the 2020-2021 COVID epidemic. The main details of this piece are: 1. Each instrumentalist plays one and only one note throughout the entire piece. There are no expression markings – only dynamics. There are no special techniques. Each performer is “self-isolatingâ€. 2. 48 instrumentalists – 24 violins, 10 violas, 8 cellos, 6 double basses. The entire ensemble covers four chromatic octaves. 3. Vibrato consistent across all instrumentalists. 4. No liberty with rhythm. Follow exactly as written. 5. This may be considered an etude – a study of volume. All instrumentalists should be consistent in their interpretation of each dynamic. pppp should be extremely quiet but still audible. 6. The change in volume for crescendos and decrescendos should be gradual – reaching end dynamic in a legato, smooth manner. 7. The visual of the dynamics in the full score – often depicts the program – like hieroglyphics. Or, in some cases, like the image of an organism viewed through a microscope. 8. Optional – performers may wear masks during performance. And, if space permits, have 6 feet social distancing between performers.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1183534 Composed by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St. Georges. Arranged by Robert Debbaut. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Multicultural,World. 28 pages. ROBERT DEBBAUT #783207. Published by ROBERT DEBBAUT (A0.1183534). How is it that one can be born a slave in French colonial Guadeloupe and rise to be among Paris’ musical giants, to become a colonel in the French Army as well as the frequent dinner guest of princes and potentates? The story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, is surely an interesting one, even the stuff of which movies are made.Joseph Bologne’s father, Georges Bologne de Saint-Georges was a French planter. Saint-Georges was the name of his plantation. He impregnated Anne, the Senegalese slave of his wife, who bore him a son in 1745. Uncharacteristic of many of these sort of relationships he acknowledged the child was his and gave him his family name. When he was seven Bologne’s father took him to Paris for his education, enrolling him in a boarding school. Two years later he and the child’s mother returned to France and set up housekeeping as a family in Paris’ Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. At age thirteen Joseph’s father enrolled him in the Royal Technical Academy of Fencing and Swordsmanship. He quickly became the finest swordsman in the academy, perhaps in all of Paris. Upon graduation he was made an Officer of the King’s Bodyguard and a chevalier (an honorary knighthood). He went on to serve tours of duty in the French Army during the Seven Years War (1756-1763) and later after the French Revolution, where he was Colonel and commander of an all-Black regiment of the Revolutionary Army. All this in spite of the fact that French law forbade him, a man of African heritage, to become a citizen, to retain his father’s royal title of “Gentleman of the King’s Chamber,†or to marry outside his class. There is limited information about Bologne’s musical training, but he was obviously so well-skilled that Italian violinist-composer Antonio Lolli (1725-1802) wrote two violin concertos for him and French composer François-Joseph Gossec (1734-1829) dedicated his set of String Trios, Op. 9 to Bologne. Lolli may have worked with him on violin technique and Gossec composition, but this may be apocryphal. Bologne played in Gossec’s orchestra, and was later both leader and conductor of the group. As a composer Joseph Bologne was quite prolific, composing six operas, fourteen violin concertos, four symphonies concertantes, and numerous chamber works and songs. His Six String Quartets, Op. 1, Nos. 1-6 date from 1770-1771 and were published by the Paris publishing house of Jean-Georges Sieber (1738-1822) in 1773 (There are a total of 18 quartets: Six Quartets “au goût du jour†[up-to-date] from 1779 and the Opus 14 set of six which date from 1785). The Opus 1 quartets are dedicated to Anne Louis Alexandre de Montmorency (1724-1812), 7th Prince of Robeck (Robecq) and Grand Duke of Spain. The Opus 1 quartets all display a similarity to the Italian opera overtures from earlier in the Eighteenth Century (often called “sinfoniaâ€) in that they have an overall “A-B-A†form with the ‘A’ sections being robust allegros and all ‘B’ sections marked “rondo.†As such, in arranging them for string orchestra it seemed quite natural to rename them “overtures.†Certain liberties were taken by the arranger in order to maintain the integrity of the classic Rondo formula. All six have been arranged in this manner for string orchestra. They vary in length from twelve to almost twenty minutes. If you wish to obtain parts, write to debbaut@gmail.com and pay $42 via venmo or $40 via personal check and they will be sent to you in pdf format.

ROBERT DEBBAUT #783210. Published by ROBERT DEBBAUT (A0.1183537). String Orchestra - SKU: A0.933521 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Cees Nieuwenhuizen. Arranged by Upstream Music. Classical. Score and parts. 18 pages. Upstream Music #6353295. Published by Upstream Music (A0.933521). Both the Adagio molto (Hess 40) and the unfinished, originally intended Fugue date from November, 1817. It was the publisher Tobias Haslinger who requested a prelude and fugue for a publication in line with works published earlier. Beethoven completed the prelude but with the fugue he stopped after merely four bars of music. The short original fugue theme was later inserted into the second part (Molto vivace) of the Ninth Symphony (Opus 125).The prelude (Beethoven did not give any time indication) starts with 37 bars of solemn music followed by 12 bars Allegro. In terms of form, rhythm, and key, this material shows great similarity to the Molto vivace from Opus 125 referred to above. The present version has been arranged for a string orchestra instead of for a string quintet, thus being the first publication which enables it to be performed in its entirety. In order to balance the foundation, I opted for introducing a contrabass part, which largely follows the cello part composed by Beethoven. As regards the phrasing, dynamics, and rests as well as the time indication, this publication follows those in Willy Hess’ publication. So the prescribed time ‘Adagio molto’ is not that of Beethoven himself. The arguments to link the Maestoso to the Fugue in D major (Opus 137) published later are multiple. In the first place, the Fugue also dates from 1817. Secondly, the key is the same as is the number of instruments for a string quintet with two separate alto parts. Not only does the original fugue theme start at the tone a, but the timing too is the same, that is 3/8. So it seems reasonable to assume that Beethoven intended both works as a couple. The abnormal rhythmics of the bars 38 up to and including 49 is remarkable. I have preserved it because the part has been authentically composed by Beethoven, while it did not seem logical to me to have it immediately followed by the Fugue completed by myself. I have composed a number of bars of music based on the beginning of the prelude by way of a smooth transition. In the Fugue, I closely adhere to Beethoven, at the same time introducing a contrabass part here as well, so as to support the cello. At a number of places in the score, Beethoven recorded neither music nor rests. This refers to the bars 5 (second viola and cello), 11, 12, 25 and 26 (first and second violins), 39 to 41 (all parts), 43 and 44 (all parts except the first violin), 45 (first viola) and finally 45 and 46 (second violin). As in Willy Hess’ publication, I have just inserted rests here.

String Orchestra - SKU: A0.933524 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Cees Nieuwenhuizen. Arranged by Upstream Music. Classical. Score and parts. 24 pages. Upstream Music #6353319. Published by Upstream Music (A0.933524). The Prelude and Fugue in C major were created during the period of study with Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, who lived from February 3, 1736 to March 7, 1809. Albrechtsberger was an Austrian theoretician and pedagogue of music, an organist, as well as a composer. He entered upon his career early as a choirboy in the choir of the monastery of Melk, Austria. There he was discovered by the crown prince, the later emperor Joseph II. The latter facilitated an appointment as the court organist.Later Albrechtsberger became conductor of the chapel choir of the famous Stephansdom in Vienna. Albrechtsberger was a highly praised pedagogue; Beethoven, too, was among his pupils. It was this composer that studied with Albrechtsberger from January 1794 to March/May 1795. Together with Beethoven, Albrechtsberger researched all forms of the counterpoint, which is most manifest in the large number of exercises passed down; over 300 studies, fugues etc. have been preserved with corrections and alterations by Albrechtsberger. During this period of study, greater works were also composed, such as the Dona Nobis Pacem (Hess A57), the Prelude and Fugue in E minor (Hess 29), the Prelude and Fugue in F major (Hess 30) and the present one in C major (Hess 31). The piece was probably composed in 1794-95; this opus also shows numerous improvements and alterations by his master, although some alterations are by Beethoven himself. The manuscript of the work is to be found in Vienna, and did not appear in print until 1967 for the first time. The present version sticks closely to Beethoven’s, but has been provided with a double bass part so as to adapt the work for being performed with a larger strength than for which it was originally written. The strength originally intended by Beethoven was two violins, a viola and a cello, so as a string quartet. With the supplementary bass part, the piece can also be played by a string orchestra, which will no doubt promote its dissemination and familiarity. In a sense, the work is already a preliminary study for the string quartets Opus 18 produced later.Especially the rhythm, melodic forms, and the counterpoint applied, frequently return in these string quartets. Beethoven has hardly indicated any rests in the empty bars; Cees has as yet added them. The phrasing, dynamics and time indications have also been added. Beethoven merely writes down the notes, while we have to accept the fact that various notes have been changed by Albrechtsberger but Beethoven’s notes might have been just as interesting. Of some notes it was not clear what Beethoven exactly meant; in such a case, Cees has adhered to the harmonious form, adapting the notes which, logically speaking, fit in with the harmonic unity.

Score and parts. 26 pages. Regis Bookshar #691621. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1087401). Coronation March, TH 50, CW 47 by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. String Orchestra - Advanced/Intermediate - . This marvelous arrangement of Peter Tchaikovsky's Coronation March, sometimes called Festival March or Festival Coronation March, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and other festive occasions. This arrangement keeps all of the intensity and excitement of the original composition and is suitable for high school and college students. Professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (26 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available to the public for the first time. The Coronation March was ordered by the city of Moscow for the coronation of Tsar Alexander III in 1883. It was written during March of 1883 and was performed for the first time on June 4, 1883 in Sokolniky Park in Moscow, conducted by Sergei Taneyev. The music then included excerpts of the anthem, God Save the Tsar. The American premiere was on May 5, 1891, for the opening concert of Carnegie Hall in New York City, conducted by Tchaikovsky himself. During the Soviet Era, Russian performances and recordings of the music were revised to omit the excerpts from the Czarist national anthem, replacing it with thematic material used earlier in the march, due to an official Soviet ban on the anthem. Starting with Dmitri Medvedev's inauguration in 2008, an abbreviated version of this piece is played during the Russian presidential inauguration accompanying the entrance of the incoming president, and ends well before the playing in this piece of the Tsarist anthem God Save the Tsar. Unlike Tchaikovsky's other major compositions, the Coronation March does not have an opus number. It has been given alternative catalogue designations TH 50 and CW 47. Tchaikovsky's Coronation March was originally scored for a full orchestra and written in the key of D Major. Regis Bookshar has now created an abbreviated version, written in Db Major, and has arranged it for a String Orchestra, with parts for 3 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Violoncellos and 1 Double Bass. In addition to this arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Coronation March for a String Orchestra, other arrangements of this festive composition for various instrumental ensembles are also available. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as there are many more arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you as well, and please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Coronation March will continue to entertain both audiences and performers alike for years to come.
