Christmas is first Christ, Jesus Christ, His humble Birth in a Manger, the quiet tenderness of his Mother Mary and his Father Joseph, the surroundings of people who were prominent in their day but utterly unknown now. It is a reaction to wanting to go back to the Silent Night, the Shepherds Watching the Sheep by Night, etc. The spirit is quiet reverence for Jesus. This is arranged for solo voice (or womens' choir), flute obligato, strings (string orchestra or string quartet), and harp or piano. In other words, this is intended to minister to the quiet nobility of the true spirit of Christmas, with love and blessings.

Many people spend their leisure time at the lake. Â Some spend the time on shore and others venture out in their boat. Â Spending time on the lake is a great way to shed the thoughts and worries of life, at least for a little while, and just relax. Â This piece attempts to capture the serenity of a peaceful day on the lake. The total duration is about 4 minutes. In addition to the excellent review in 2001 issue of The American String Teacher Journal, this piece was selected, through national competition, for performance at the Living Composers Concert held in Wisconsin in 2005. Contains the score and a full set of parts. Â ASCAP.

What I wished to do in composing this music was to reveal a more Middle Eastern tonality to my style which is derived from American folk fiddle music. As I become more and more familiar with American music in my own musical journey, I also learn that the music I like so much has many layers. It exposes mystery in its origins when one cares to peel back these layers. It is likely these Middle Eastern cultures play more of a role in American fiddling (and American music in general) than previously thought.In Harmony I use descriptive phrases printed in the score to indicate the temperament and journey of the music. Reaching Out begins the piece with its inviting and inquisitive drones. Throughout the piece there are several interpretations of the material with canonic and fugal writing. The music of Harmony is based on the same material constructed in a slow tempo in the beginning, a moderate tempo in the middle of the piece, and a fast fiddling tempo near the end. With hope in heart and music, I contribute Harmony on this painful day of remembrance. It is a tone poem or a sound piece that was composed for a second year String Orchestra. It tells the story of a winter day that starts out cold and peaceful but soon the snow starts to fall and the winds start to pick up. Before long, a winter storm has arrived! You will hear many winter tunes stated briefly throughout. These represent various melodies that are carried around by the wind. You will hear the Hallelujah Chorus when school is cancelled! I hope it makes you think of snowmen, sledding, ice skating and snowballs flying. All the wonderful things that make winter a special season.MUSICAL ELEMENTS:• No slurs are written in but feel free to add them as desired. • The Piano part is optional but adds to the presentation• Accents• 5/4 meter 2 + 3 subdivision • Changing meter• Dynamic levels • Crescendo• Tremolo• Glissando (Cello and Viola - measure 50)• Pizzicato (in Violins and Double Bass)• Chance Music - random notes (Violin 1 - measure 31)51 measures.
