Cello,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1314243 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score and part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #902984. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1314243). Saint-Saëns: The Swan (Le Cygne) movement 13 from the Carnival of the Animals Suite. One of his most popular and widely recognized works, it is the only movement from the Carnival Suite that Saint-Saëns permitted to be performed publicly during his lifetime. This is an excellent recital encore to demonstrate melodic playing and strategic phrasing. The Carnival of the AnimalsThe Carnival of the Animals is an entertaining musical suite of fourteen movements by Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was composed for private performance by an ensemble of two pianos and solo instruments. The Swan (No. 13) is among the fourteen most famous movements. In its entirety, it lasts about 25 minutes. Saint-Saëns BackgroundCharles-Camille Saint-Saëns 1835 – 1921) was, by all means, in particular, a famous French composer, brilliant organist, and significant musical mastermind of the Romantic era. Indeed, his most famous compositions, in the long run, include his Piano Concerto No. 2 (1868), Cello Concerto No. 1 (1872), and the Danse macabre (1874). Notwithstanding, we must also add Violin Concerto No. 3 (1880), Symphony No. 3 (the Organ Symphony, 1886), and, it must be remembered, Carnival of the Animals (1886) to the list. ChildhoodIt is essential to realize that Saint-Saëns was undoubtedly, in fact, a child musical prodigy. Consequently, with this in mind, he made his concert debut, albeit at ten years old. Another critical point to remember is that he expressly studied at the Paris Conservatoire, then, despite reality, conversely followed a traditional career path as a church organist. Nevertheless, twenty years later, on the other hand, he left to become a successful freelance pianist and composer despite, as has been noted, his former employment situation. Furthermore, his performances were, after all, markedly in demand - not only in Europe but, above all, in the Americas all in all as well. YouthA point often overlooked is that in his youth, Saint-Saëns was undoubtedly excited about the modern music of the day. He was, in essence, fond of the music of his contemporaries, particularly Schumann, Liszt, and, for the most part, Wagner. In contrast, however, his compositions seemed, in fact, primarily confined within the conservative classical tradition. Be that as it may, he was, at the same time, nevertheless, a scholar of musical history.CriticismOn the whole, his conservatism, in fact, ultimately brought him into frequent conflict in his later years with composers of the impressionist and, in particular, the dodecaphonic schools of musical thought. A point often overlooked is that he included neoclassical elements in his music, contrary to some critics. Furthermore, in so doing, he provided the most compelling evidence that he predicted the techniques and works by Stravinsky and Les Six. To put it another way, given these points, he was regarded, perhaps for the most part unfairly, as a non-progressive reactionary henceforth around the time of his passing. LegacySaint-Saëns taught briefly in Paris, where his students included Gabriel Fauré. Maurice Ravel later studied with Fauré. In conclusion, both Ravel and Fauré were powerfully influenced by Saint-Saëns, whom they respected as a musical mastermind.

Cello,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549551 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3507503. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549551). Duration: ca. 3:20, Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. A delicate masterpiece, not very difficult - suitable for a recital encore. Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.Register for free lifetime revisions and updates at www.jamesguthrie.com

Cello,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.836706 Composed by Brian Joyce. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 19 pages. Brian Joyce #3009363. Published by Brian Joyce (A0.836706). A couple of lifetimes ago (or so it seems now) I wrote a quartet of sonatas: one apiece for flute, viola, oboe, and the present work for cello. I thought of them as representing Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter respectively. This one, dating from 1972, expands the concept of a rondo to dimensions covering an entire multi-movement sonata. There are the traditional three movements one would expect to find, but they are tied together through unmetered sections for solo cello set between them. In this way, the true movements almost function as episodes in a giant rondo. Additionally, the solo interpolations form an entity in themselves, each picking up where the previous one left off. And if that weren’t enough, thematic material in the real movements is often first presented in the Interpolations, so it is difficult to tell where an idea really belongs. Given my philosophical leanings at the time (it was the 70s, remember!), this ambiguity was precisely the point.Performance time is approximately 12 minutes.

Cello,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1316427 By DaCapo Primary Music. By Peter Furniss. Children,Classical,Folk,Instructional,Traditional. Score and part. 68 pages. DaCapo Primary Music #905173. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1316427). Brilliant solos for beginner cello with piano accompaniments. The tunes in this collection of concert pieces have been adapted from traditional folk and children’s songs and given a whole new lease of life with entertaining and imaginative piano accompaniments. There are two versions of each piece – one technically easier than the other. The keys are those needed for early graded exams and there is scope to extend the key ranges and explore octave displacements, varied articulation, slurrings, different fingerings etc. These possibilities are not always marked in the score as it is hoped that the teacher can encourage pupils to bring their own ideas to each piece. The imaginative and varied piano parts give the performer much more than just a chord structure as support for their playing and the accompanying CD can be used once they are able to play the pieces with ease.Designed to be the first concert pieces for a beginner to be played with a pianist or at home with the CD, giving the audience entertaining music to listen to whilst giving the player a real sense of a serious performance. In Concert is the final workings of songs that were commissioned to teach music to children systematically using relative solfa. The songs (all old English folk songs) were reworded to make for entertaining material for children whilst they learn the basic elements and skills of music making. The songs are contained in The First DaCapo Songbook and are brought together as a singing performance in The Farmyard Suite. In Concert is the instrumental version of this. You can find more DaCapo pieces for young instrumentalists at DaCapo Music Shop

Published by SalutConcert (A0.1013561). DREAM OF LOVE -Duo for Cello & PianoA true work of art, fantastically beautiful and perfect, that reaches the maximum point of the sense of Love. Lord of the Violin -Mstro. Graf Mourja / RussiaThe work Dream of Love, originally written for Piano Solo and titled by the composer Liszt Liebestraum No.3, relives in the XXI century its intense romance in the version of a loving Duo, starring by Cello and Piano, created by Victoria Foust. It represents a dialogue that leads to discovering the meaning of Love in all its expressions.Preserving the passionate romantic atmosphere, this Duo version demands great technical and musical professional ease for both instruments, in order to achieve a complete and transcendent musical experience for both the soloists and their audience. The cello part has a mature technical exigency that requires a high-performance flight to reach the door of the spiritual, of the metaphysical, proposed in this arrangement for duo. - Mr. J. Hennessey Brown / Brown Music Agency / UKApart from offering a virtuous sample for each interpreter, it also provides a very effective tool to discover the world of chamber music and develop a greater sensitivity for each soloist and the duo itself.Approximately 5 minutes long, the composition, accompanied by an original poem, written by its author and translated into two languages (Spanish and English), invites you to discover the dimensions of Love through a musical journey that leads to the union of all senses.Love…Are you a necessity or a luxury?A truth or an illusion?Love…Are you just a Dream? To complete the enjoyment of this beautiful musical gem, Victoria Foust has created the Videoclip Dream of Love - a love story, starring by music, Lipizzan imperial horses and the exuberant nature of southern Chile.A beauty from a fairy tale, turned into reality, that invites you to see it indefinitely. - Mstro. Peter Guth / Strauss Orchestra / Viennahttps://youtu.be/jLWxkmg_Ld0 To musically unite the Love Story part of the VideoClip with it Credits part, the creator has specially composed a new piece of music There was once - a fantasy about Liszt's melodies, which fuses classical piano with Latin-American rhythms and jazz touches, interacting with saxophone, cello and percussion.https://youtu.be/i-_gWb1u-zABoth works are also part of the CD Pulse of the Life with the compositions by Victoria Foust.https://www.victoriafoust.com/cd-pulso-de-la-vida/More details about the Project of the Videoclip Dream of Love can be found here:https://www.victoriafoust.com/sueno-de-amor/I very much wish that you can enjoy this musical arrangement and I will be very grateful if you could share with me your experiences related to this work.Music with Love,VictoRia · www.victoriafoust.com· https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6sgzGtmZ0WluhJkz_pmrRQ· Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/victoria.foust.581· Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pianistvictoriafoust· Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/victoria-foust-3a268859/· Wikipedia: https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Foust It is published under Label SalutConcertwww.salutconcert.com
