Hugo Schlemuller (1872-1919), pianist, teacher and music writer, taught violoncello in the preparatory school of Dr. Hoch's Conservatoire in Frankfurt. During this time, he wrote numerous works for violoncello lessons for beginners, among them the easy performance pieces Op. 12.
The pieces with piano accompaniment are playable in the first close position throughout and are suitable for students at the end of the first year of training who also wish to master a few little musically demanding challenges from time to time.

The present volume contains a selection of very easy recital pieces for violoncello and piano which can be played in the first position after 1-2 years of cello lessons. The selected pieces are original works from the Renaissance period to the present day: from the Baroque minuet, the classical sonatina or the Romantic character piece to contemporary music and tango, blues or pop. The pieces are suitable for individual, group and chamber music lessons, for practising on one's own and especially for the first auditions, concerts or competitions. Vol. 1 (ED 21705) includes very easy pieces in 1st position, followed by Vol. 2 which also includes easy pieces in 1st and 1/2 positions. Vol. 3 contains easy to intermediate level pieces in 1st-4th position. All the pieces have been carefully selected to suite the appropriate . technical and musical levels, and range from original compositions by the great masters to arrangements from classical, pop, jazz, spiritual, bossa nova and tango music.

For use in lessons or for your first concert performance - Easy Concert Pieces for Cello and Piano contains easy and well-known solo pieces from the Renaissance to the modern era, carefully selected according to technical and musical demands: Volume 1 very easy (1st position), Volume 2 easy (1st and half position), Volume 3 easy to intermediate (1st to 4th position).
Besides original compositions by Breval, de Fesch, Reinagle or Gretchaninoff there are readily playable arrangements of classical masterpieces and modern compositions from the world of pop, jazz, spirituals, bossa nova and tango.

Volume 2 of the Cellissimo series contains 25 popular original pieces for cello and piano from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras and is a real treasure trove for advanced pupils, students, teachers and cello lovers.
The cello literature comprises a lot of major standard works for lessons, concerts and competitions. Apart from classics by Vivaldi, Breval, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Faure, or Saint-Saens, the volume also contains several lesser known pieces, e.g. by August Nolck (1862-1928) and Georg Goltermann (1824-1898).
The pieces are of medium technical difficulty which corresponds to grade 3-4 or grade 5-8 of the international examination system. Some pieces can be played in the 2nd to 7th position, while several works require putting the thumb under. All selected works are particularly suitable for the development of sound, vibrato, differentiated bowing technique, as well as the performer's personal interpretation and musical presentation.

These are the latest example of the little pieces Turnage has always composed for friends and personal occasions. More intimate and tender than his orchestral statements, these small works are immediately accessible and rewarding to play for musicians at many levels.

This volume from the popular 'Cellissimo' series contains 37 popular recital pieces from classical to pop music. It is suitable for lessons, performances and competitions. As there is little literature for the cello in jazz and pop style, this volume has a special focus on modern styles such as blues, jazz, pop, rock, funk, folk, Latin, or tango. The selection motivates and introduces to playing techniques of pop music (slide, hard chop etc). Many pieces can be played in the 1st - 4th position, while some also use harmonics or the 5th - 7th position. It is impossible to imagine today's cello lessons without the works by Jean-Baptiste Breval (1753-1823).

This sonata is the first of the Six Sonates non difficiles pour le violoncelle Op. 40 (1795). To this day it remains popular among cello teachers and pupils alike. Because of its comfortable tonality and technical simplicity, it is an interesting classical sonata for cello students who are experienced in playing in first position and do not shy away from occasional excursions into other positions.

As a performance piece, the sonata can be accompanied either by a second cello, as in Breval's original version, by piano, or even by both instruments. .

The sonata is particularly suitable for music lessons and concertos in the popular version for violoncello and piano by Joachim Stutschewsky, which was revised for the Schott Student Edition by Rainer Mohrs and edited and prefaced by Beverly Ellis.

Bernhard Romberg (1767-1841) probably was the greatest cello virtuoso of his time and compared to Paganini in his lifetime. He gave cello lessons at the famous Conservatoire de Paris among others.
Romberg's popular Trio in E minor originally was the first part of the Trois Trios d'une Difficulte Progressive pour le Violoncelle Viola et Violoncelle Op. 38. The solo violoncello was accompanied by a viola and a second violoncello. The two other trios are much more difficult, with a lot of passage work, thumb position, tenor and violin clef.
The Trio in E minor Op. 38/1 was arranged many times and scored for various combinations of instruments. This edition refers to the popular arrangement for violoncello and piano by Friedrich Gustav Jansen (1837-1910) which is ideal for music lessons and concerts.
Also available is another arrangement of the Trio Op. 38/1 for three violoncellos (SE 1008). The easy bass part can be played by another student.

This collection contains hymn arrangements written over several years for the composer's many professional cellist friends. Some were created as cello solos, and some were rearranged from other versions. For more advanced performers, the styles range from Traditional to Jazz.
