Beautiful easy VIOLONCELLO and PIANO arrangement of the piece: Air (from Orchestral Suite No.3 in D major, BWV 1068) by Johann Sebastian Bach (Score and violoncello part: 5 pages) This arrangement presentes a new adaptation solution to transform the original piece (composed for string orchestra) into an easier version for VIOLONCELLO and PIANO, with an easy-to-follow score to be played by music students. This Bach's Air is probably the most famous movement among Bach’s orchestral suites, and in this arrangement, the long melody line spins out its cantilena against a walking bass line and easy-to-play contrapuntal commentary played by the piano. The chord symbols are present in the sheet music, allowing the duet to be accompanied by another harmonic instrument, or even for a better understanding of the harmonic structure of the piece. Prologue-Greeting : This is a short song with a bright atmosphere in d minor in 3/4 time.2mov. Oriental Flute : In G major in 4/4 time, the natural harmonics of string instruments are partially used to describe the sound of oriental flute. 3mov. Cheerfulness : In D major in 8/12 time, tried to express Korean joy by using our traditional rhythms, Kutkuri Jajinmori 4mov. Sorrow : In 3/4 time G major, not in minor, but in major, expressing deep sorrow. 5mov. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1119145). This easy arrangement for violoncello and piano was written to be uncomplicated to perform and understand the structure of the piece. It can be freely played by beginning students, because of the ease imposed on the piece; however, this does not prevent it from being played by professionals and music teachers. It is also ideal for academic recitals, student method and ceremonies that are arranged in the same way as the piece contains. The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument.

She played principle cello and had several solo features in the program. I was so impressed with her performance that I hired her to participate in several recordings of my music. She played cello in my string quartet, Sodium, my Octet in D, and my song cycle Alice. She is now a senior at NEC, and I decided that as a parting gift I would write a cello duet for her.
