It includes three of our most cherished Hymns: (1) Amazing Grace, (2) Take My Life and Let It Be, and (3) To God Be the Glory. The theme is one of God's Grace, the Christian's response to what He has done for us, and God's Love, all seen through His Son, Jesus Christ. The word, sonata is used by the composer/arranger because of the many ways the hymn tunes are presented and developed through: motifs, secondary themes, variation, repetition, recapitulation and other compositional devices. 3 ONE MOVEMENT HYMN SONATAS is perfect for Church services, recitals or gatherings where hymns of God's grace, His love and our praise to Him is desired. Entschlackt [Piece in Two Parts] resulted from an attempt to write music that is clear, precise and concentrated without being superficially ’simple‘. The ‘purged’ or ‘cleansed‘ character of the piece is noticeable in its sound – using a combination of instruments that produces rather distinct colours – as well as in its form. Each possible combination of the four instruments from solo to quartet is arrayed in short sections (except for a few overlapping passages). The two movements are quite asymmetrical: the first one’s character is almost thoroughly expectant and preparative; however, the second, flashing by quite rapidly, does not provide an ‘adequate‘ continuation. The addition “Piece in Two Parts†in the title, the line-up, the bipartite form and also certain musical details imply a reference to the later works of Stefan Wolpe. Benjamin Schweitzer.

This favorite contemporary hymn by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend is arranged as an instrumental duet (for Cello Solo with Piano Accompaniment). The beautiful, lyrical style of this instrumental piece creates a powerfully uplifting atmosphere and is an ideal selection for any church setting.For the first verse, the CELLO plays the melody. The PIANO plays the melody for the second verse and then concludes with the CELLO on the melody for the third verse. The PIANO has both right-hand and left-hand playing melody during the interludes. Three unique verses are included and if four verses are desired to match the lyrics, an optional repeat is included for the last verse. The first two verses are softer and more lyrical than the third verse. For the third and optional fourth verse, the PIANO transitions to a bolder, more powerful feel matching the intensity of the lyrics: Then bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave He rose again! Suitable for recitals, church meditations, or school programs. School Years First of all, Sullivan attended music school at the Royal Academy of Music. Because Sullivan was so talented, the Academy awarded him the Mendelssohn Scholarship for two years in a row. He, therefore, studied with John Goss, who studied with Thomas Atwood, who in turn studied with Mozart. Sullivan similarly studied the piano at the Academy with Arthur O’Leary. Study Abroad During his first year, he also earned money by singing solos in the Chapel Royal. At the end of his second year, the Academy consequently continued his scholarship and sent him to study at the Leipzig Conservatoire. He certainly studied composition, and likewise counterpoint and piano. Hence, during his final year in Leipzig, Sullivan finally completed his graduation composition project: Incidental Music for Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Association with Gilbert It seems like Sullivan built the bulk of his composing career largely in the 1860s. As a result, he became famous for his incidental music for the Tempest and his Irish Symphony. He, therefore, began collaborating with the poet W. S. Gilbert in the 1870s. Rather than focus on serious opera, Gilbert and Sullivan, in contrast, concentrated on comic operas such as H. M. S. Pinafore, the Pirates of Penzance, and the Mikado. Therefore, certainly as a result of his education and experience, Sullivan composed a total of 24 operas, 11 symphonic works, and 10 choral pieces. Even more, he wrote a large number of noteworthy hymns such as Onward Christian Soldiers. Lost Chord The general style of his music is maybe similar to Mendelssohn, Schumann, and perhaps Liszt. It seems like Sullivan was fond of writing distinct melodies for each character in his operettas. His melodies combine together as the characters did. Furthermore, he was a master orchestrator, and therefore played the flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone fluently. The Lost Chord Sullivan wrote his most noteworthy song the Lost Chord in 1877. As a result, it was a great success and was certainly performed all over the world by a variety of singers such as Enrico Caruso. Because Sullivan was the most famous composer in England, the Lost Chord became the most famous of all British or American songs of the 1870s and 1890s. Consequently, in 1888 Thomas Edison recorded The Lost Chord for the phonograph. It was one of the first songs ever recorded. Furthermore, Queen Victoria knighted Sullivan in 1883.  Â

Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite.This full version is arranged as a solo for Cello and Piano and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The opera was not well received when it premiered in London in 1736 and sank into immediate obscurity, only to re-emerged as one of Handel’s best-loved works nearly two hundred years later. Ombra Mai Fù is often referred to as Handel’s Largo. In 1906 Ombra Mai Fù gained the distinction of being the first piece of music ever broadcast on radio. This full version of Ombra Mai Fù is arranged as a Solo for Cello and Piano and both parts are reasonably simple; the performance time is around three minutes.
