In this series, Schott presents demanding piano transcriptions of well-known works. The series comprises 14 editions, all volumes of which have been .compiled with great care and .given a special cover.
Volume 14 contains a delicate piano paraphrase by the famous pianist Cyprien Katsaris of Johann Sebastian Bach's 'Badinerie', a smash hit in music history. Every eight bars of Bach are followed by the virtuoso 'commentary' of the Paris-based Katsaris.
Ambitious pianists are certainly going to enjoy the virtuoso challenge of this effective arrangement.

Chopin is considered to have been the founder of what was a new style of sensitive virtuoso piano playing among the Romantics. Heinrich Heine made the telling comment about him that "He is not only a virtuoso, he is also a poet". This volume contains original piano compositions such as Preludes, Mazurkas , Waltzes and Polonaises, along with arrangements of the loveliest themes from his two Piano Concertos, three pieces of chamber music and a song.

Unlike the highly virtuoso Etudes d'execution transcendante by Franz Liszt,
these etudes by Wilhelm Killmayer are written 'in a deliberately anti-virtuoso
manner, without chroma, i.e. with seven tones and largely in two parts'. (Wilhelm Killmayer)

Each of the twelve pieces focusses on a single compositional or technical aspect. Diatonic scales, parallel thirds and major chords are combined with some technically very tricky passages.

Killmayer makes great demands on the pianist's concentration, subtly coloured performance and differentiated articulation. The seventh etude is given the title 'Im Schumann-Ton' - unforced heartfelt music, always somehow "absent" and unpredictable in its modulations.

Franz Schubert composed his lied "An die Musik" (German for "To Music") in March 1817 for solo voice and piano, with text from a poem by his friend Franz von Schober. In the Deutsch catalog of Schubert's works it is number D547. The original key is D major. It was published in 1827 as Opus 88, No. 4, by Thadd�us Weigl [de]. Schubert dedicated the song to the Viennese piano virtuoso Albert Sowinsky on April 24, 1827, a decade after he composed it.

A hymn to the art of music, it is one of the best-known songs by Schubert. Its greatness and popularity are generally attributed to its harmonic simplicity, sweeping melody, and a strong bass line that effectively underpins the vocal line.

This beautiful piece appears in In the final episode of Netflix Series "Unorthodox", the timelines converge as Esty auditions for a scholarship that could guarantee her a future pursuing music in Berlin. Having been told by one of her new friends that she doesn't have the skills as a pianist -- despite having taken secret lessons back in Brooklyn -- Esty chooses to sing. She first performs Schubert's "An die Musik," which she picks because it was a favorite of hers and her grandmothers. "An die Musik" is quite literally an ode to music, and is a fitting choice for Esty, for whom music is a lifeline. But her voice doesn't quite match it.
