Published by David McKeown (A0.587711). Pie Jesus is the fifth and central movement of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. The piece was premiered in Paris in 1888, and underwent several revisions in subsequent years. The Requiem was performed at Fauré’s own funeral in 1924, but it’s only in recent years that this gentle version of the Mass for the Dead has received the international recognition it deserves. Contemporary performances in Parisian churches required the Pie Jesus to be sung by a boy treble, but in the concert hall, Fauré always preferred a soprano voice for the part.This arrangement transcribes the orchestral score as a Solo for Viola with Piano accompaniment. Both the piano score and the solo part are included in the pdf file. The linked youtube performance is the clarinet version of this arrangement.Soloists at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms are straightforward, and there is plenty of scope for expressive, lyrical playing. The slow tempo though will require good bow and tone control. The piano part is suitable for an intermediate player. Caprice started out as a totally different piece of music, as a song in fact. However, in this modified form in a different key, it works well as a short, easy solo for viola. This is a light piece without any technical difficulties, but the modest musical material will test your musicality. It’s mainly about melody, not technical abilities. Spirited, lyrical, reflective – those are the three moods the player needs to communicate, and always with a light touch. The first section, up to the key change, should be thought of as a song. That is followed by an instrumental interlude before the song returns at measure 72. At times there is a hint of Latin feeling in the piano accompaniment, which will require some sensitive playing to support that song-like concept. The repetition of the opening four notes in the solo part at the end should not be played loud – they should be regarded as an afterthought. Likewise, the last note in the piano part should not be a we’ve-reached-the-end thump, instead played lightly, like an understatement.

Always on My Mind is a ballad written by Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James, first recorded by Brenda Lee and first released by Gwen McCrae (as You Were Always on My Mind) in March 1972. Lee's version was released three months later in June 1972. The song has been a crossover hit, charting in both the country and western and pop categories. Elvis Presley's recording was the first commercially successful version of the song.AllMusic lists more than 300 recorded releases of the song in versions by dozens of performers. While Lee's version reached no. 45 on the US country chart in 1972, other performers reached the Top 20 on the country and/or pop charts in the United States and elsewhere with their own versions: Elvis Presley (1972, US country; UK pop Top Ten); John Wesley Ryles (1979, US country) and Willie Nelson's Grammy Award-winning version (1982, US/Canada country number one; US/Canada pop Top Ten); and the Pet Shop Boys' 1987 hi-NRG/synth-pop interpretation (UK number one; US Top Ten).This arrangement of what is a beautiful song is suitable for players of around Grade 4 ABRSM or equivalent.

Really??This is a great song and works really well as an instrumental solo for brass instruments. It comes from the 2018 remake of the film 'A Star is Born' and is sung originally by Lady Gaga.I was asked to do an arrangement of the song for a young lady to sing with Boobs & Brass. I was struck by the quality of the words and the music and immediately thought of it as a great addition to the solo repertoire.In terms of standard, I would judge this to be around Grades 5 to 6 ABRSM/Trinity and makes for an interesting challenge away from the grading syllabus.

THIS PASSACAGLIA is a slow theme and variations, in a minor mode, with a bass ostinato. THE ONLY difficult part is dealing with the counterpoint, but it is worth the effort, it will impress your audience, and is fun to play. I HAVE 3 versions; this one is for piano, viola and double bass. It also works well with cello instead of bass. I HAVE uploaded a PDF with the Viola, Double Bass, Cello and Piano parts. ALSO, I have uploaded a STRING ORCHESTRA version, with parts, and a MAMBO version for Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, String Bass and 4-part Latin percussion, with parts. You could make a whole concert out this one piece!

It was originally part of the two volume clarinet collection, Carols For The King From Around The World, also available at Sheet Music Press. For advanced intermediate performers, this is sheer fun from start to finish, and very suitable for Christmas concerts. The opening measures can be omitted, and the song commence where the piano enters. The piano left hand plays a walking bass throughout and can be performed with a double bass player, as in the recording provided - contact me for the extracted part, or if interested in a recorded piano accompaniment.
