Keith Terrett has done an outstanding job of injecting jazz and blues into these holiday favorites. The writing beginning in measure 13 of Ding Dong Merrily On High is outstanding. Check out the wonderful contrast in movement between the flute and bass. This arrangement of Xmas carols would be a wonderful addition to any future holiday program. Well done Keith! Have fun! Caroling (singing carols in the street) is one of the oldest customs in Great Britain, going back to the Middle Ages when beggars, seeking food, money, or drink, would wander the streets singing holiday songs.

His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Published in 1903, The Elite Syncopations followed the classic four part structure that Joplin had developed with earlier compositions. In 1974 the Royal Ballet in London produced a ballet based on ragtime music using The Elite Syncopations as both the title and main theme. This arrangement of The Elite Syncopations is arranged as a solo for one Trumpet with piano accompaniment. Both the piano and the separate solo part are included in the one downloadable pdf file. It makes use of jazz trumpet techniques, like the shake, fall and doit, and the piece as such has a distinct rhythmic verve. It calms down in the middle section though, where it picks up the initial phrase of the hymn tune 'Thine Be The Glory', which is woven into the ascending figure which comes back in the concluding part. 'Rise Up!' may be used as a short, stand-alone concert piece, where the trumpet player is given an opportunity to display his technique and stamina in the upper register. With it's celebratory character, the piece will also fit in at festive occasions like weddings.

The second of Bach’s four orchestral suites is actually the one he composed last, in Leipzig around 1739, and is probably the last orchestral music of any kind that he wrote. It is basically a solo flute concerto in the form of a dance suite, and an extraordinarily difficult flute concerto at that. A badinerie is a sort of character piece in 18th-century suites, with no particular dance rhythm or meter. This one has a full measure of the light and lively bantering the title implies, which has made it also popular with jazz arrangers. The Duration is approx. 1.32 minutes and the level is Advanced Intermediate.
