Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844538). In 1849 Robert Schumann completed a set of Romantic character pieces for piano which he named Forest Scenes. One of that set was called Pleasant Landscape, which I have freely arranged for accompanied Instrumental Solo. I have slowed it down considerably from the original and marked it with passionate energy. The beauty and interest is created by the shaping and phrasing of this beautiful melodic line. It has a rubato feeling throughout with constant tempo changes like rall, molto rall, freely, accel, etc. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of interpretive marks in every measure making it a great piece for auditions to show your technique and interpretation. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. The equally beautiful piano part provides great interplay of expressive harmony and countermelody. A beautiful piece to show your expressive musicianship and impress them in either concert or audition. Marked Intermediate due to the plethora of markings to observe, musicianship that is required for a mature performance, and a 2 octave range that will push the limits of some instruments.3:10 minutes, 5 page score, 2 page solo partTemporary recording of a piano reduction of total score.

John Davison's Sonata for Trumpet and Piano (1990) is a dynamic, lyrical, brilliant and heartfelt work written for Trumpet in B-flat and Piano. It is in the traditional three-movement Fast-Slow-Fast format with the piano part playing an integral role.
Movement 1, Allegro non troppo is melodic and rhythmic with a bouncy syncopated style.
Movement 2, Andantino has lyrical and tender moments, and also a haunting muted section.
Movement 3, Allegro is in multi-meter, full of dance-like, rhythmic and syncopated sections.
The 16 minute work is appropriate for advanced performers and can be the major work on a recital.
The sample track is performed brilliantly by Terry Everson, Trumpet and Susan Nowicki, Piano.

This work was commissioned by Anthony Smith, for his performances in the Canterbury Slow Melody Contest, and the NZ National Invitational Slow Melody Competition.Wawatatia means “to dream for, to hope for, or to desire something to be†and was written during the Covid-19 pandemic that swept the world. It has been a tough and disruptive few years for everyone and Wawatatia depicts a state of internal reflection on the challenging times that have been - but with an emphasis on not dwelling on the past and looking forward to the future with a desire or hope for a better world. Cleverly embedded through the piece are quotations from Eric Ball’s Resurgam which depict the hope that we all have for the future.

Sarabande This piece was inspired by various classical works but it still has something of the Twentieth Century about it. You'll notice the B section suggests a minuet. If you can find moments to use a true, fully supported pianissimo it will help make this melody truly haunting. August Serenade This piece has a spritely main theme that introduces two quieter, more introspective melodies. The first theme again echoes a minuet while the second is more of a slow waltz. The main theme should be precise and fiery, the second played with a sweet elegance and the waltz filled with warmth and autumnal colours.

The piece was premiered in Paris in 1888, and underwent several revisions in subsequent years. The Requiem was performed at Fauré’s own funeral in 1924, but it’s only in recent years that this gentle version of the Mass for the Dead has received the international recognition it deserves. Contemporary performances in Parisian churches required the Pie Jesus to be sung by a boy treble, but in the concert hall, Fauré always preferred a soprano voice for the part.This arrangement transcribes the orchestral score as a Solo for Trumpet with Piano accompaniment. Both the piano score and the solo part are included in the pdf file. The linked youtube performance is the clarinet version of this arrangement.Soloists at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms are straightforward, and there is plenty of scope for expressive, lyrical playing. The slow tempo though will require good breath and tone control. This easy arrangement for trumpet and piano has been adapted to be simple to perform and understand the structure of the original work for various levels of musical knowledge. It can be played freely by beginning students because of the ease imposed on the piece. It is often performed at wedding ceremonies slowly and reverently, challenging the effect suggested by Bach in his original score for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings, and continuous bass. This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, of those that have survived, it was given BWV 147 in the complete catalog of his works.

'Journey Home' is a fun piece that contains both a sense of longing to return and an excitement to traverse forward. This work is intended for young players to work on both lyrical and technical playing. I wanted to write something for my own students as the repertoire for young musicians does not always contain contrasting material in such a short work. I also wanted it to include differing meters while still maintaining a friendly melody that can be recognized throughout the whole piece. While it is only about 2 minutes at the tempos indicated, it still has a plethera of phrases that can be crafted to the musicians own taste while still having some guidance for decision making. The tempos are flexible- whether you want to take the intro slower or the 3/4 section faster, I hope you make it your own!
