Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792420). Fauré is well known for his lyricism and haunting harmonies. In a way, he was the father of French Impressionist music. The Sérénade, Opus 98 was originally written for the great 20th century Cellist, Pablo Casals. Mr. Ralph Sauer has kept the arrangement in the same key as the Cello. The work is playable by advanced performers. This arrangement is another example of Mr. Sauer’s excellent feel for the subtleties of the composer’s style.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792634). The Petite Suite, published in 1885, is Borodin's major work for the Piano and originally comprised of seven movements. Mr. Sauer's arrangement incorporates three of them: Intermezzo, Rêverie and Sérénade. The Petite Suite was dedicated to the Belgian Countess Louise de Mercy-Argenteau, who was a supporter of Borodin and his music. After Borodin's death in 1887, Glazunov orchestrated the Suite. The music has that Eastern flavor so indicative of Borodin's melodies, mysterious, lyrical and subtle. Advanced performers will enjoy this work which has been so beautifully arranged by Mr. Sauer.

They consist of mysterious, hypnotic melodies supported by simple chord structures and are full of cryptic comments such as counsel yourself carefully and be clairvoyant. There are few restrictions on interpretation. Mr. Sauer’s beautiful arrangements of these six short works total about 15 minutes in length and are suitable for advanced performers.

Massenet's Three Pieces for Piano, Four Hands Opus 11 was published in 1867. Two of the pieces were adapted for Cello in 1877. Mr. Sauer has arranged these two pieces for Tuba or Bass Trombone and Piano: 1. Andante sostenuto 2. Allegretto vivo scherzando The Andante is flowing and lyrical with the Allegretto being a lively 6/8 dance in A-B-A form. The two movements total about 5 minutes and are appropriate for advanced performers.

The songs are: • Après une rêve (After a Dream) - Fauré’s most famous song, text by Romain Bussine • Hymne - also an ethereal love song, text by Charles Baudelaire • Barcarolle - a flowing song in 6/8 time from a poem by Marc Monnier Mr. Sauer has beautifully arranged these songs for advanced performers and provided English translations of the lyrics for better understanding of the spirit of each song. Length of the three song set is about 7 minutes.

Granada Asturias Sevilla Each piece is based on a region of Spain and is honored with a unique dance celebrating the area's character. This arrangement of fourteen minutes in length is suitable for advanced performers.
