Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1412589). Menuet and Passepied movements have been beautifully arranged by Ralph Sauer for Trombone and Piano. These two lovely miniatures are taken from the Suite Bergamasque composed by Claude Debussy, originally composed for the Piano between 1890 and 1905. The Menuet is non-Baroque-like and with all the embellishments is more like an arabesque.The Passepied also a dance, is fast and light with a 3 against 4 polyrhythm. (Wikipedia).This work is suitable for advanced performers.

As well he is a noted composer and has had his works performed by a number of orchestras and well known musicians. The Concertpiece for Tenor Trombone and Piano composed in 2009 is an extensive work in a traditional yet contemporary Sonata style in four movements. The Concertpiece ends with an eloquent Epilog which sums up the entire work. Movement I is titled Intrada and is mostly in an Allegro Tempo.<BR> Movement II is titled Romanza marked Moderato e rubato Movement III is titled Danza Rustica and moves with quick rhythmic energy. Movement IV is titled Epilog, slow and evocative in nature. Concertpiece is about 27 minutes in length and can be performed by advanced musicians.

One of his most famous works, the Prélude in C-sharp minor is from this same group of music. Opus 3, No. 3 is also sometimes referred to as the Melody in E major. It's slow tempo allows the mood of the work to reach a giant climax. Rachmaninoff's lush harmonies and gorgeous melody work very well with this transcription by Ralph Sauer. For moderately advanced performers this movement is about 4 3/4 minutes in length.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792416). Paul Marie Théodore Vincent d'Indy was born in Paris into an aristocratic family of royalist and Catholic persuasion. He had piano lessons from an early age from his paternal grandmother, who passed him on to Antoine François Marmontel and Louis Diémer. His main influence was Cesar Franck. These three pieces were some of his many works for Piano. Opus 33 was inspired by a trip to Bayreuth, the musical home of Wagner and the Black Forest region. Opus 33 no. 1 from 1889 is titled ? with no explanation of itself. Opus 33 no. 10 is titled Lermoos, which is a delightful skiing village in Austria right on the border with Germany. Germany's largest mountain is in perfect view, possibly giving the movement its spirit. Opus 28 is a Serenade for Violin and Piano published in 1900. It is lithe, subtle and lyrical.

Armand Russell's Perplexing and Perilous Pieces for Trombone and Piano is in two contrasting movements. The first movement Perplexing Prelude is slow, sad, gloomy, worried and moody. The second movement Perilous Pursuit is fast with many different 4-note Bartokian modal-like scales and quite playful in mood. It gets going faster and faster, finally slowing right down and becoming quiet at the end like an exhausted child, but giving one surprise last gasp of a Hoorah to conclude. This work of a bit over 5 minutes in length is appropriate for intermediate performers and is all in bass clef.
