As Leif “Smoke Rings†Anderson said about this piece: “It tells a sadly story about a lonely man walking away in the night, going nowhere.†The relaxed tempo makes it an ideal piece for after-hours. And the jazzy chords are just marvellous! Piano voice is written out - with additional chord symbols for your own voicings. As for the title, the name of the piece: I am not entirely sure, whether “Marlowe´s Theme†is correct. The music of the opening scene has no name, as far as I´ve been able to determine, and on Davis Shire´s own piano solo version there´s a combination of this piece with “Marlowe´s Themeâ€. But, there you go … . It´s fantastic music, anyway. Two iterations: Piano Intro with the original piano pattern. Clarinet has the theme for one complete iteration. Piano Solo over 16 bars. Clarinet takes over second half of the theme. Duration: approx 03.00 min. I´ve listed quite a lot of songs, so far: Movie Themes and classic Pop songs for this kind of instrumentation, and others. This brilliant Contemporary Classical piece borrows from many different styles. It is a Sonatina in 3 sections. The buoyant first section is quite Classical with a bit of fanfare, and then an Alberti Bass section that is an homage to Mozart. The expressive middle section is New Age in style and is in 7/4 Time Signature (3/4 then 4/4 in alternating sets, so not hard). The final section goes through several themes and a key change; having an ornamented Baroque theme, then a Classical theme reminiscent of the opening, then concluding with a Romantic era toccata. There are Chorale-like bridges linking the many sections and themes.

In 2004, he won the first prize at the 6th Japan Clarinet Competition. In 2006, she was selected for the 74th Japan Music Competition. After working with the Philharmonia of the University of the Arts and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, he is currently the principal clarinetist of the NHK Symphony Orchestra and performs with orchestras in Japan and abroad, and was the soloist at the Gathering of Thanksgiving for the 30th Anniversary of His Majesty the Emperor's Enthronement in 2019. One will be able to find an Introduction, Primary Theme, Transition, Secondary theme, Closing Theme, Development, and the Recapitulation. The classical styling showcases the clarinet’s versatility, range, and colors. In the Tinnabular – This melancholy piece explores the minimalist style of composition invented by Arvo Pärt called tintinnabuli. The two voice types characterized in this method (‘tintinnabular’ arpeggiating voice/the stepwise diatonic voice) are found in the piano while the clarinet adds a melody. Both of these voices expand, note by note, over time. In the Time of Rag – A lively and entertaining piece in the ‘ragtime’ style. Performers are encouraged to improvise, as was customary for these pieces. The drum set is not necessary but does add a great dimension to the music. From my research, I believe the style of drumming needed is “2nd line drummingâ€. The high hat and snare notation is meant to simulate the beats using brushes, rather than sticks, on the snare while maintaining the march rhythms. Washboards, tambourines, and the like could be incorporated at the discretion of the percussionist. Dynamic levels of the drums should not overtake the clarinet and piano but enhance the overall performance.
