This edition has a score and set of parts. The trio can be played by 2 flutes or violins (or oboes) with bassoon or cello by players of intermediate standard and above, The bassoon/cello part may stretch less advanced players but some adjustments of an octave will make the part manageable for a good intermediate stage player.

Published by Richard A. Evans (A0.748368). Ignaz Pleyel (1757-1831) was an outstanding pupil of Franz Joseph Haydn with whom he remained friends his entire life. He was a prolific composer in a wide range of genres....symphonies, string quartets, operas and chamber music. He founded a music publishing business in Paris which published works of such composers as Mozart, Beethoven and Boccherini. He arranged works of composer such as this composition by Devienne that he arranged as a flute duet. His music is noted for it simplicity which made it quite popular with the amateur musicians of his time, but it quickly fell out of favor with his death.

Allegro, Affetuoso & Presto. Quantz composed the Duettos for his flute pupil Frederick the Great of Prussia. The Duettos are clearly written for players of equal ability and the alternative violins included would have been added on publication in 1759 to maximise sales.

No manuscript has been found and there is no date of publication. Boivin was also Michel Blavet’s publisher and the flute duets and sonatas credited to Blavet have publication dates and opus numbers and his full name and the dedication details. The musical style of the 6 sonatas is characteristic of Blavet rather than Handel and none of the thematic material from these sonatas seems to have been re-used by Handel - whose borrowings from his own works are numerous and well documented.There are 4 movements for 2 equal players of Intermediate standard, Affettuoso, Allegro, Dolce & Vivace.They are also suitable for pairs of oboes or clarinets or violins. They have been very lightly edited, obvious wrong notes have been corrected, a few dynamic and decorative suggestions added in parentheses ( ) missing slurs added in broken lines (- -).

This is the first of ‘VI SONATE A TRE Due Flauti col Basso’ by ‘Giuseppe San Martini Milanese’ published in Paris as his ‘Opera Prima’ (opus 1)* by Le Clerc and Boivin ‘avec privilege du Roi’ in 1736. Giuseppe’s surname varied progressively during his life from St. Martini via San Martini to Giuseppe Sammartini. The basso part would have been played on a cello or bassoon probably with the addition of a harpsichord filling out the harmony according to the figured bass. The trio works well with three players of intermediate ability or above. One or both flute parts can be played on oboe(s) or violin(s) and this would certainly have happened in the households of the wealthy amateurs who purchased the first edition.

It is a fusion of two styles-namely the late romantic period and film music. It is based on a single idea heard in the first two bars (a bar or so of quaver movement). This gets developed throughout the piece even changing key for a few bars at one point for a twist of harmonic interest before reaching a climax in the middle.After several more bars of an idea expressed earlier, the piece returns to the main theme for the last time featuring a small codetta before fading away gently to a whisper.The whole score is on here for you to assess suitability. It is set to intermediate level and is around 4min 40 in length. A favorite Christmas selection from the Nutcracker Suite. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tchaikovsky is probably the most popular of the great composers in America. His music certainly appeals to musicians. Likewise, it appeals even to folks who don’t normally listen to serious music. This is probably because of his most noteworthy melodies. Above all, he writes with great emotion. This certainly makes a most noteworthy if not an unforgettable impact. Education First of all, He attended classes at the Russian Musical Society. Even more, He also attended the St. Petersburg Conservatory. There he studied music theory with Nikolai Zaremba. He also consequently studied composition with Anton Rubenstein. It seems like Rubenstein came under criticism from a group of Russian composers known as the Five. The Five The Five certainly rejected Western musical influences. They rather sought to use elements from Russian music. They furthermore wanted to use more exotic musical materials. Western Techniques More than other Russian composers, Tchaikovsky studied modern Western music. He certainly develops his music like the European masters. So, rather than repeating a motive, he moves to a new key. He then introduces a different theme in the new key. Hence, he maintained his independence from the Five. Even more, he became the first Russian composer of international stature. Influences Tchaikovsky was probably influenced in his ballet scoring by Léo Delibes. Richard Wagner influenced his symphonic writing. Tchaikovsky’s most famous works include the 1812 Overture, The Nutcracker Suite, and Swan Lake. Also famous are the Violin Concerto in D and the six symphonies. The greatest of the six symphonies may be No. 6, the Pathétique. Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a The Nutcracker Suite is a ballet that was performed for the first time in December 1892 in St. Petersburg. To begin with, the original ballet failed to attract a positive reception. However, the ballet suite became probably one of the most popular of all of Tchaikovsky’s works. The ballet suite became even more famous in the 1960s. It is now performed all over the world, particularly during the Christmas season.
