24 all original Flute duets for intermediate to advanced players by Keri Degg. Containing a multitude of styles from Swing, Celtic, contemporary, classical, Rock and more, these are a must have for the intermediate to advanced player wanting to improve their playing.

As the duets are all original, no 'cheating' can take place by already knowing the melodies so good tactical mathematical skills must be employed. Some of the duets zone in on intonation, others on rhythmic precision, or expression. There are a number of light hearted duets in the collection which provide welcome relief amidst exam study work (after all, music should be fun too!).

The duets are designed for 2 C flutes (B foot/feet are not required). Or, for a giggle.... try them on two piccolo's (ear defenders are not included however...).

The duets stick mainly to the keys and note ranges for the given grades but there are occasional exceptions (in our opinion this is good preparation for what is to come ahead) and generally the lower Flute part (Flute 2) is a little easier in standard (although often the melody line will switch from player to player to share the tune and encourage sympathetic listening skills).

Spanish Christmas Carol for 2 Flutes

The composer of the song La nana, balada al niño Jesús was José Ramón Gomis, born in Novelda, Alicante;2 the lyrics are by Juan Francisco Muñoz y Pabón. The Society of Spanish Authors published the score in 1904.3

The song was compiled by the musicologist Kurt Schindler in his work "Folk music and poetry of Spain and Portugal",4 as collected by the author in Medinaceli, Soria, around 1930.5 Someone sang the first eight bars of the melody composed by José Ramón Gomis, and some verses of the lyrics.6

The first recordings of the song are from 1931,7 performed by Marcos Redondo for the Casa Odeón, and from 1932,8 performed by Julio Vidal and his group for La voz de su amo.

There is an arrangement of four mixed voices entitled Fuentecilla que corres. It was performed by Eduardo Cifre,9 in 1974 or 75.6 and is very popular among Spanish choirs.

愛(Ai, Japanese for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Flutes, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by the Enka music of post-war Japan. As reconstruction gathered pace, the popular music of the day combined traditional Japanese scales, rhythms and themes with all sorts of contemporary Western ballad styles. Singers like Misori Hibari and Keiko Fuji became huge cultural icons in Japan and helped lay the foundations for today?s confident and vibrant Japanese music scene. 愛(Ai) aims to capture the spirit of this emotionally charged music.

愛(Ai) is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. Expressive throughout, be sure to pay attention to contrasts in dynamics and articulation. 愛(Ai) has a performance time of around two minutes and a half minutes. Help! by the Beatles, was the title track of the 1965 album of the same name. It was also the name of the Beatles? film released in the same year. Help! was primarily written by John Lennon. In later interviews he admitted that Help! was a subconscious response to the pressures of fame and that commercial pressures had forced the band to record it as an up-tempo pop song rather than a reflective ballad.

This version of Help! is arranged as a duet for two Flutes.

Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) by the Beatles, was released on the 1965 album, Rubber Soul. Primarily written by John Lennon, the song refers obliquely to an affair that never quite off the ground.
